My twin boys wanted a Ninja Turtle party for their birthday this past year and as many of you know, I love making their birthday cakes. One of them wanted a cookie cake this year and I was scared to death. I normally just do regular cakes or cupcakes. However, I think our Ninja Turtle cookie cake turned out great!
Today I thought I would show you how I made and decorated this Ninja Turtle cookie cake this last fall. It ended up super cute and tasted amazing!
First you need to make your own cookie cake (find the recipe below) and one batch of homemade buttercream icing. It is super easy to make!
I used the Wilton 14 inch cake pan to make my cookie cake in. You can snag one on sale on Amazon today. I lined my cake pan with foil and then coated it with this cake release. It makes it easier to remove the big cookie cake from the pan.
I then used our pizza pan as the platter.
First I printed out a picture of the item I wanted on the cookie cake. In this instance, I just wanted a picture. I first drew a rough outline with my knife. That way I could easily make corrections. Then I used our wilton cake decorating bag. I piped the outline in black.
Now was time for the fun. I filled in the mouth with white icing. Then added in the black lines for teeth. I used the wilton star tip to fill in the red and then write my son’s name on the bottom.
I then used the star tip with green icing to finish filling the the ninja turtle face. I then use the really large star tip (you can find it here) to make the green edging on the cookie cake.
All in all I think it turned out super cute. once the cookie cake was made, I was able to decorate it in under an hour…. which is a win win for me!
My son, Garrett, just loved his cake and I loved how easy it was to make. The kids all loved it and now all my children have started requesting cookie cakes for their birthdays. 🙂
