My oldest son has a June birthday and he never gets to celebrate his birthday at school with his friends. Each year he is bummed when his brothers get to take cupcakes or cookies to school. This year my son has an awesome Kindergarten teacher who has a son with a June birthday and completely understood. She allowed the 2 summer birthdays to celebrate their birthday in May.
So we had to come up with extra special cupcakes!
We kept thinking and thinking trying to decide what kind of cupcakes we should make. Me… being frugal wanted to make something from my pantry. I had a plain vanilla cake mix but you can’t send your son to school with plain vanilla cupcakes. He would be horrified!! haha! So we decided to color them!
Making your own colored cupcakes are so easy and every parent and child should do it.
Step 1: Mix up your cake batter (white cake mix) like you normally would
Step 2: Separate the batter.
Step 2: Spoon the first color into cupcake muffins.
Step 3: Spoon your next color into the cupcake muffins.
You can then swirl the colors with a knife or toothpick but we decided not to do that. Remember… we like to keep things simple.
Step 5: Bake like normal and enjoy!
The best part about coloring two bowls of batter… you have two bowls to lick! 😉
Next time you need to make some plain old cupcakes, make sure you jazz them up by coloring them!
Make sure you try some of our delicious cupcakes. I know you will find more your family will love.
