In a large bowl, combine 1 cup warm water, ? cup vegetable oil, ¼ cup sugar, and 2 Tbsp yeast. Let the mixture sit for 10–15 minutes until the yeast becomes bubbly.
Stir in 1 beaten egg, 1 Tbsp softened butter, and ½ tsp salt.
Using a stand mixer with a dough hook or mixing by hand, add 3½ cups all purpose flour, ½ cup at a time, until a soft dough forms that is no longer sticky. If the dough is still sticky after all the flour has been added, mix in additional flour 1 Tbsp at a time until the dough is manageable.
Knead the dough for 10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a stand mixer.
Divide the dough into 12 equal balls. Lightly spray your hands with nonstick spray if needed to prevent sticking while shaping.
Place the dough balls into a greased 9x13 baking pan. Cover with parchment paper and a kitchen towel.
Let the dough rest and rise for approximately 10 minutes.
Bake for 10–15 minutes or until the tops are lightly browned.
Brush the rolls with 2 Tbsp melted butter before serving if desired.

Expert Tips
Wheat Flour - You can substitute wheat flour for regular cups of the flour. Either substitute the entire amount or do half and half. I would do half and half so they are not too grainy.
Stand Mixer- While you can certainly do this by hand, I prefer to use my stand mixer. It makes it super easy when you use the dough hook.
Gluten Free - You can also use the 1 to 1 gluten free to make quick and easy gluten free rolls. Just make sure that you use a 1 to 1 option so that the dough will rise correctly.
Yeast - Make sure the yeast is not expired. If you don't use it often, it may have expired without you realizing it and the rolls will not rise properly with expired yeast.
Dough Texture - I suggest adding about 1/2 cup at a time. If the dough is still sticky after you have added all the flour, add 1 Tbsp at a time until the dough isn't sticky anymore.
Variations and Add-Ins
Parmesan Cheese - Sprinkle over the top when they are fresh out of the oven and you have parmesan rolls. These would go perfect with any Italian Dish. I even like to sprinkle with Garlic salt as well.
Honey - Drizzle honey on top fresh out of the oven, and you have delicious sweet rolls.
Garlic Rolls - Brush on melted butter fresh out of the oven and sprinkle a little garlic salt on top. This is probably my favorite variation.
How to Freeze and Reheat Homemade Rolls
You have two options to freeze homemade rolls. You may freeze the balls of dough, or you may freeze them after they have been baked. This is a great way to save time and still enjoy homemade dinner rolls. If you want to freeze the balls of dough.
Place them in a foil pan wrap with saran wrap or foil and place in the freezer.
When you are ready to bake, place in the fridge to thaw over night and bake according to the directions. You do want to make sure they are thawed.
The second way to freeze dinner rolls is to freeze after you have baked them.
Simply, allow them to completely cool and place in the freezer.
You can bake them from frozen, but make sure you keep them covered so they do not brown too much.
