In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt 6 tablespoons unsalted butter.
Slowly whisk in 1 cup half and half until fully combined with the melted butter.
Add 2 minced garlic cloves and simmer the sauce for 3 minutes, stirring almost constantly. Do not allow the sauce to boil.
Remove the saucepan from the heat.
Gradually add 2 cups freshly grated parmesan cheese, one handful at a time, whisking thoroughly after each addition until the cheese is completely melted into the sauce.
Stir in a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg.
Taste the sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve warm and enjoy!
