This Chipped Beef (also known as Creamed Chipped Beef or “SOS”) is a classic comfort food made with dried beef in a rich, creamy white sauce served over toast. Ready in under 20 minutes with simple pantry ingredients, it’s a hearty, budget-friendly meal the whole family will love.

¼cupAll Purpose Flour($0.08)
1tspBlack Pepper($0.10)
1tspGarlic Powder($0.05)
3cupsWhole Milk($0.58)

Instructions
Melt 1/4 cup of butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Slice 4 jars of dried beef into thin strips and then dice into small pieces.
Add to the skillet and cook until warmed through. Season the beef with salt, 1 tsp of pepper and 1 tsp of garlic powder.
Stir in 1/4 cup of flour and cook for approximately 2 minutes.
Slowly stir in 3 cups of milk.
Continue to stir the mixture and bring to a low simmer over medium. Let simmer for 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Serve the mixture over the toast and enjoy!

Notes
Refrigerate any leftover mixture in an airtight container for up to 4 days. If you’re concerned about the salt content in the recipe, rinse the dried beef before adding it to the skillet. If you do not want to use dried beef, you can use approximately 1 pound ground beef, browned and drained instead.
