Ingredients
Ingredients for Cookie Jar:
- 1 ¾ cup All Purpose Flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup light brown sugar firmly packed
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup Christmas M&Ms
- ½ cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
To be added by gift recipient:
- 10 Tablespoons unsalted butter softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
To Assemble the Cookie Mix Jar:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Spoon the flour mixture into the bottom of a 32-ounce quart-size mason jar. Gently tap the jar on the counter to level the mixture.
- Add the brown sugar in an even layer, gently pressing and smoothing it against the sides of the jar.
- Add the granulated sugar in an even layer.
- Top with the Christmas M&M's and chocolate chips. Fill the jar to the top so the ingredients are packed tightly and do not shift.
- Secure the lid tightly. Attach the baking instructions to the jar with Christmas ribbon or baker's twine.
Instructions for the Gift Recipient:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth and combined.
- Add the entire contents of the cookie mix jar and stir until a cookie dough forms and no dry streaks remain.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing the cookies about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 9–11 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
The assembled cookie mix jars can be prepared up to 1 week in advance. Store them in a cool, dry place until ready to gift.
For best results, make sure the ingredients are packed tightly in the jar to keep the layers from shifting.
