Place 5 Italian sausage links in a large skillet. Add enough water to reach about ½ inch up the sides of the pan.
Bring the water to a simmer. Cover, reduce the heat to medium, and cook for 10–12 minutes until the sausage reaches an internal temperature of 160°F.
Remove the lid and continue cooking on medium-high heat until all the water evaporates.
Allow the sausages to brown slightly, turning them frequently to brown evenly on all sides.
Remove from heat, serve warm, and enjoy!
