Enjoy all the pizza flavors in this Pizza Burger Recipe. Simple ingredients, easy to make and completely customizable, this burger makes the perfect weeknight dinner as it is ready in 20 minutes.
In a large mixing bowl, stir together the ground beef, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt and pepper together. Use either your hands or a sturdy spoon.
Form the mixture into 4 large, thick patties.
Preheat a large skillet over medium high heat.
Add the patties to the skillet. Cook for 4-5 minutes until browned.
Flip the patties but do not press them down and cook for 4-5 minutes until the patties have an internal temperature of 155-160 degrees F.
Top each patty with approximately 1 1/2 tablespoons of pizza sauce, 1 slice of cheese and 6 pepperonis per patty.
Turn the heat off, place a lid over the skillet, and let the patties sit for a few minutes until the cheese is melted.
While the cheese is melting, spread the butter on the buns and toast them in a clean skillet over medium high heat for a few minutes until golden brown.
Lay the patties on the bottom buns and place the top buns on top. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Recipe Tips
Skillet - I used a cast iron pan but any large skillet will work.
Cooking Hamburgers - If you choose to use leaner ground beef, then add a small amount of oil to the pan before cooking. Make sure to use an instant read meat thermometer to ensure that the patties are cooked through.
Variations Ideas
Hamburgers - You can make these burgers with ground turkey if you prefer.
Hamburger Buns - For a low carb option, serve with portobello mushrooms.
Pizza Toppings - You can easily add any of your favorite pizza toppings. Mushroom, red onions, green bell peppers or tomatoes would all be delicious toppings for these burgers.
