Recipe Tips
Rice - I find that it’s best to use leftover rice for fried rice. Make sure that the long-grain rice is cold as it’s easier to sauté in the skillet when it’s cold.
Butter - Feel free to add in butter to the fried rice mixture instead of the vegetable oil. The Hibachi Restaurant always use a large slab of butter when they are cooking fried rice.
Vegetables - The vegetables can be frozen or fresh when making this dish. If I use frozen, I do not thaw them. I just toss it in the skillet and heat. We love to sneak in other veggies to this rice recipe.
Medium High Heat - We recommend cooking the pork fried rice on medium high heat to thoroughly cook the pork and veggies. We continually are stirring the ingredients together while cooking in the skillet.
Soy Sauce - When adding in soy sauce to the rice mixture I like to add enough soy sauce to make sure the mixture is covered. I also serve it as a side for those like a little extra.
Meat - Feel free to change the meat to make this dish. You can use chicken or shrimp for a delicious addition to this recipe.
Recipe Substitutions and Additions
Change the Rice – You can use brown rice, cauliflower rice or jasmine rice instead.
Use Different Vegetables – You can add in mushrooms, snow peas, broccoli, bell peppers and water chestnuts.
Add in Nuts – Add in chopped peanuts or cashews for some crunch. We also like adding in toasted sesame seeds.
Change the Pork – Use ground pork instead of diced pork tenderloin.
Soy Sauce Substitution – You can substitute soy sauce for coconut aminos. We even like to add in 1 tbsp of hoisin sauce.
Change the Seasoning - Add in some cloves garlic and fresh ginger for added flavor. We love the combination of these two seasoning. Mix in some oyster sauce is also a delicious addition.
