Baked potatoes on the grill make an effortless side dish. They are cooked to perfection while keeping your kitchen cool. Just add toppings and you are set.
Use a fork to poke various holes into the potatoes. Place the oil in a shallow bowl and place the sea salt in a separate shallow bowl. Then place the potatoes in the bowl with the oil and turn it to ensure that all sides of the potatoes are covered in the oil. Then move the oiled potatoes to the bowl with the salt and turn to coat the outside of the potato with the salt.
Then place all the potatoes in a microwave safe dish and microwave the potatoes on high for 5 minutes. After this cook time, wrap each of the potatoes in a piece of aluminum foil. I prefer heavy duty foil to help prevent tears or leaks.
Place the potatoes directly on the grill grates and keep the lid shut. Allow the potatoes to cook on the grill for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes until the potatoes are fork tender and the skin is crispy. Rotate the potatoes every 15-20 minutes to avoid grill hot spots and make sure to keep the lid closed for the entire cooking time. The cooking time will vary based on the size of the potatoes.
Allow the potatoes to cool slight before serving. Then cut, top with your favorite toppings and enjoy!
Notes
Make sure that the potatoes are dry before grilling to prevent any burning on the outside of the potato skin.Store any leftover potatoes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days.
