Steam the cauliflower for about 10 minutes, or until very tender and easily pierced with a fork.
Drain the cauliflower thoroughly and return it to the pot.
Add the cream cheese and 4 tablespoons of the butter.
Season with salt and black pepper.
Blend with a hand mixer until the cauliflower reaches your desired consistency. Be careful not to overmix.
Transfer to a serving bowl and top with the remaining 2 tablespoons butter and chopped chives.
Serve warm.
