In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ranch seasoning mix, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined.
Divide the meat mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each into a thin patty, about ¼ inch thick.
Place about 2 tablespoons of crumbled bacon and 2 tablespoons of shredded cheddar cheese in the center of 4 patties.
Top each with one of the remaining patties. Press the edges together firmly to seal in the filling, then gently flatten each burger slightly.
Preheat a grill or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
Cook the burgers for 4–5 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
During the last minute of cooking, toast the hamburger buns cut-side down on the grill or skillet.
Place each burger on a toasted bun and add your favorite toppings, such as lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and mayonnaise. Serve immediately.
Notes
For the juiciest burgers, use 80/20 or 85/15 ground beef.
Avoid overmixing the meat, which can make the burgers tough.
Be sure to seal the edges of the patties well to keep the cheese from leaking out while cooking.
Leftover cooked burgers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stovetop or in the microwave.
