In a large skillet over medium heat, brown 1 pound Italian sausage until fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
Transfer the cooked sausage to a crock pot.
Add 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste, 2 cans (14.5 oz each) crushed tomatoes, 32 ounces chicken broth, 1 teaspoon minced garlic, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, 1 teaspoon sugar, 4 ounces quartered pepperoni, ½ chopped onion, and 1 chopped red bell pepper to the crock pot.
Stir everything together until combined.
Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 3 hours.
Stir in 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese.
Cover and cook for an additional 15–20 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted.
Serve warm with your favorite bread and enjoy!

Refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days. You can easily use ground beef instead of ground sausage in this recipe if you prefer.
