4

(about 1 lb.)
2

Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine ½ cup solid vegetable shortening and ½ cup (1 stick) softened butter or margarine. Beat until smooth and creamy.
Add 4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating on low speed after each addition until fully incorporated.
Add 1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons milk.
Increase the mixer speed to medium-high and whip until the frosting is light, fluffy, and thoroughly combined.
Use immediately or store covered until ready to decorate.
For Decorating:
For piping, add additional confectioners' sugar as needed to create a thicker consistency suitable for a decorator bag.
For spreading or covering a cake, add a small amount of additional milk as needed to create a smoother, more spreadable consistency.
Notes
Recipe makes 2 1/2 cups of frosting.
