In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, cook the ground turkey, breaking it apart as it cooks, until no longer pink. Drain any excess grease if needed.
Add the chopped onion and cook for 2–3 minutes, until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add the black beans, Rotel, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, chicken broth, cumin, chili powder, paprika, salt, and diced sweet potatoes. Stir to combine.
Bring the chili to a boil.
Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20–25 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are fork tender.
Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
Serve warm, topped with diced jalapeño and fresh cilantro, if desired.
Notes
Refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days. You can easily use ground beef or ground chicken instead of ground turkey in this recipe.
