Why You’ll Love Slow Cooker Rice Pudding!

A woman with long dark hair, wearing earrings and a burgundy top, smiles at the camera in front of a textured, beige background.

Set it and forget it! Short-grain rice such as Arborio or Minute Rice slowly releases starch for a naturally creamy pudding. It’s budget-friendly, customizable (custardy or dairy-free), and just as good warm as it is chilled.

A splash of vanilla at the end makes it fragrant, and you can stir in raisins, diced apples, or even a little coconut for a delicious variation. Serve it warm with a dusting of cinnamon for cozy vibes, or chill it for a thicker, scoopable pudding that’s perfect with fresh berries.

This sweet treat keeps well for a few days, reheats beautifully with a splash of milk, and tastes like nostalgia in a bowl.

Ingredients

Five clear glass bowls on a white marble surface, displaying ingredients for Slow Cooker Rice Pudding: milk, uncooked rice, sugar, vanilla extract, butter cubes, and a small dish with ground cinnamon.
  • Milk – We like to use whole milk for a creamier texture. Feel free to use almond milk for a dairy free option
  • Granulated Sugar – We used real sugar to sweetened the rice pudding. You can even use brown sugar
  • Instant Rice – We used Minute White Rice that is uncooked
  • Ground Cinnamon – Adds warm flavor. Nutmeg is a delicious addition as well
  • Vanilla Extract – Use pure vanilla extract
  • Butter – Dice the butter. You can use unsalted or salted butter

Recipe Notes

The cooking time can vary based on your crockpot, be sure to watch closely while cooking.
I didn’t grease my crock pot when cooking this recipe, but if your crock pot insert has food stick to it easily when cooking, then I would recommend spraying it with a non-stick cooking spray before adding in the ingredients.
For storing the leftovers, let it cool completely at room temperature and then refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3-5 days.
