The slow cooker does all the work and you can easily serve your family an amazing dinner in no time at all. The flavor is so delicious and the beef is so tender from being slow cooked all day.

The homemade tzatziki sauce takes these beef gyros to the next level and will leave your family coming back for more. This Easy Mediterranean recipe can’t be beat and it is so simple. This recipe for beef gyros is a family favorite.

A beef gyro is a Greek dish that cooked meat is served in a pita bread. It is topped with tomato, onion, lettuce and homemade tzatziki sauce.

A gyro can be made with beef, chicken, pork or lamb.

  • Fresh Lemon Juice

  • Plain Greek Yogurt
  • Cucumber
  • Dill
  • Garlic

This is the best sauce and just takes a few seconds to make.

You only need a few simple ingredients for this amazing sauce. You can quickly and easily make this homemade sauce and it is so tasty.

The name sounds a little intimidating but it really is very simple to make. The seasonings blend together with the yogurt and cucumbers for a really amazing flavor.

I like to put a pretty generous drizzle of this sauce on my gyros. It is that good and just the best sauce ever.

Ingredients:

For the Beef Gyros:

  • Roast, cut into bite size pieces or strips
  • Onion, thinly sliced
  • Minced Garlic
  • Dried Oregano
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Fresh Lemon Juice
  • Warmed Pita folds
  • Sliced Tomatoes and Lettuce for serving

For the Tzatziki Sauce:

  • Plain Greek Yogurt
  • Shredded Cucumber
  • Dried Dill or Fresh Dill
  • Salt
  • Minced Garlic
  • Salt and Pepper

How Do you Cook Beef Gyro Meat:

  • Step 1 – Place ingredients in Slow Cooker – Combine the beef, onion, oregano, salt, pepper, and lemon juice in a crock pot.

  • Step 2 – Cook until tender – Cook on low for 8 hours or until beef is tender. Cooking time will vary.

  • Step 1 – Combine the ingredients for the tzatziki sauce and store in the fridge until ready to serve.

How to Make Beef Gyros at Home:

  • Step 1 – Add meat and toppings to Pita – Place the beef in a warmed pita and top with the sauce. We also like to top each gyro with lettuce and tomatoes and it is so delicious.
  • Step 2 – Top with Sauce – You can add an extra drizzle of the tzatziki sauce if you love it as much as we do.

  • Food Processor – Use a food process to dice up your vegetables so they blend well with the other ingredients.
  • Olive Oil – You can add some olive oil to the crock pot to prevent the roast from sticking.
  • Sauce – We recommend placing the Tzatziki Sauce in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Substitutions and Additions:

  • Chicken Gyro – You can easily make this gyro with chicken. It still as flavorful and you will use the same seasoning.
  • Change the Topping – You can change the toppings with what you prefer. I often times will just have beef and lettuce stuffed in a pita.

How to Store:

Place your leftovers in an air tight container and place in the refrigerator for about 3 to 4 days.

We like to place in individual containers to easily place in a pita or whole wheat wrap to have for lunch the next day.

When you are ready to reheat your beef gyro, you can reheat in the microwave or place it in a sauce pan. You may need to add a little beef broth.

  • 1 large onion thinly sliced
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • Warmed pita folds
  • Sliced tomatoes and lettuce for serving

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup diced cucumber seeded and shredded
  • 1 Tbsp dried dill or 2 Tbsp fresh dill
