Everyone loves cake pops! Well, everyone I know. 😉 I have made several different varieties, but I think these Minecraft Cake Pops may be close to my favorite. At least I know my boys loved them for their Minecraft birthday party! You only need a few ingredients and a little bit of time and you will be able to make these too.
Minecraft Cake Pops
- 1 Cake Mix (I bought mine on sale with a coupon for only $.25)
- 1 tub of frosting (also on sale with a coupon!)
- 1 package lollipop sticks
- 1 package green candy melts
- floral foam block (optional but great for standing your cake pops at a party)
How to Make these Minecraft Cake Pops
I made these cake pops out of Betty Crocker Rainbow Chip Cake mix, but you can use any flavor cake mix you like.
Bake the cake according to the package directions – I use a 13×9 pan since it requires the least amount of baking. Once the cake is done baking, let it cool off so it is not too hot for your hands (about 15 minutes).
Now, here comes the fun part! Get a large bowl and crumble the cake! That’s right – get your hands right in there and break the cake into pieces until all your left with is a bowl full of cake crumbs. Get the kids involved!
Then simply mix 2/3 to 3/4 of a tub of Frosting (again I used Betty Crocker vanilla) until your mix is one thick ball of “dough”. I add just enough frosting to the crumbled cake so that i can pick up the mixture with my hands and it is not too sticky.
Now that you have your “dough” mixture, simply pinch of bite-size or larger piece and form them into your desired shape. Since I was making these for a Minecraft party, I made mine cube shaped. Place your shaped cake pops on a wax paper lined cookie sheet.
At this point you can insert lollipop sticks. Now, place your shaped cake pops in the freezer so it is easier to coat them with chocolate later.
While your pops are in the freezer, melt the green candy melts according to the package directions. Once your chocolate is completely melted, dip the cake pops in the melted mixture, tap the stick on the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate and then allow them to dry upright. The chocolate dries fast so you’ll want to work quickly at this point. You may want to only take a few cake pops out of the freezer at a time as they are easier to dip in the chocolate when they are frozen.
For my cake pop stand I simply used a floral foam block and covered it in black tissue paper. This is perfect for any birthday party theme, but especially perfect for a Minecraft birthday party.
When all of my cake pops were done, I simply drizzled some melted milk chocolate over the top to add a little more color. Once these are fully assembled, there is no need to keep them refrigerated. The chocolate stays hard and the cake inside stays moist. Oh the joy of a cake pop. 😉
These minecraft cake pops are perfect to serve at a birthday party, to include in treat bags, or to take to your child’s school to celebrate their birthday. They travel really well… much better than cupcakes. 😉
These are freezer friendly!!
Just so you know, I accidentally made to many and so I froze the left overs. They froze great and still taste amazing!
Stay tuned… Next week I will be posting my mine craft birthday cakes that I made for their birthday too!
