Everyone loves cake pops!  Well at least everyone I know. Add in Minecraft and you really have a winning party combination! I have made several different varieties of cake pops and I think these Creeper Cake Pops may be close to my favorite. I know my boys loved them for their Minecraft video game birthday party!  You only need a few ingredients and a little bit of time and you will be able to make these, too.

Ingredients for Minecraft Cake Pops

How to make Minecraft Cake Pops

minecraft cake pops for a minecraft birthday party
  1. First, bake the cake according to the package directions. I used Betty Crocker Rainbow Chip Cake mix, but you can use whatever flavor you want to. Once the cake is done baking, let it cool off so it is not too hot for your hands (about 15 minutes).
  2. Next comes the fun part! Get a large bowl and crumble the cake! That’s right – get your hands right in there and break the cake into pieces until all your left with is a bowl full of cake crumbs. This is a great time to get the kids involved!
  3. Then simply mix 2/3 to ¾ of a tub of Frosting (I used Betty Crocker vanilla) until your mix is one thick ball of “dough”. I add just enough frosting to the crumbled cake so that I can pick up the mixture with my hands and it is not too sticky.
  4. After your frosting is mixed in and you have your “dough” mixture, simply pinch of bite-size or larger piece and form them into your desired shape. Since I was making these for a Minecraft party, I made mine cube shaped. Place your shaped cake pops on a wax paper lined cookie sheet.
  5. Then insert the lollipop stick into each cake pop and place your shaped cake pops in the freezer so it is easier to coat them with chocolate later.Easy Minecraft Cake Pops
  6. While your pops are in the freezer, melt the green candy melts according to the package directions. Once your chocolate is completely melted, dip the cake pops in the melted mixture, tap the stick on the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate and then allow them to dry upright. The chocolate dries fast so you’ll want to work quickly at this point. You may want to only take a few cake pops out of the freezer at a time as they are easier to dip in the chocolate when they are frozen. For my cake pop stand I simply used a floral foam block and covered it in black tissue paper. This is perfect for any birthday party theme, but especially perfect for a Minecraft birthday party.
  7. Lastly, I simply drizzled some melted milk chocolate over the top to add a little more color. Once these are fully assembled, there is no need to keep them refrigerated. The chocolate stays hard and the cake inside stays moist. Oh the joy of a cake pop!
