We use mayonnaise in a lot of our summer recipes. It makes are coleslaw, potato salad, and pasta salad so creamy that it is definitely a ingredient that you don’t want to skip.

There are times that we want a healthier version or maybe we are completely out. We have gathered some great substitutes whether you are wanting a better option or just don’t have it in the fridge.

Easy Substitute for Mayonnaise:

Figuring out the right substitute will depend on what you need the mayonnaise for. You will want to use a substitute that is similar in the creamy texture and tangy flavor.

Mayonnaise is made up of egg yolk with olive oil and flavored with lemon juice or vinegar. Greek yogurt is often use as an easy substitute because of it creamy texture but it is lower in calories.

1. Greek Yogurt:

For a healthy alternative for Mayonnaise, use Greek Yogurt. It has a similar creamy texture and tangy flavor. It is perfect mixed in with chicken salad, tuna salad, egg salad or salad dressings. We have used in our Homemade Ranch Dressing.

It is lower in calorie but high in protein and fiber. We love the texture and flavor that it gives recipe and it is our recommended substitution for mayonnaise.

2. Sour Cream:

Sour cream is a good substitute for Mayonnaise. It isn’t only to top your favorite bake potato or nachos, you can use this for your salads or slaws.

Sour Cream may not be as low in calorie as Greek Yogurt but you will still get that creamy texture.

3. Cream Cheese:

If all you have is cream cheese and Greek Yogurt then you can mix the two and make a good substitution for Mayonnaise. Make sure to softened the cream cheese and you may need to thin it out with some milk, but it still give your dish that creamy texture.

Cream cheese and yogurt are get combine to add to your tuna salad or chicken salad.

4. Avocado:

We love avocado. The health benefits that avocado offers, ensures that I always get some at the store. Which works out great when I need a substitute for Mayonnaise.

Just mash your ripen Avocado and your can achieve that creamy texture that mayonnaise offers.

5. Cottage Cheese:

Cottage cheese is also a great substitute for mayo. It is lighter and high in protein. To achieve that creamy texture, blend the cottage cheese in a blender or a food processor.

Once blended you will have a creamy and tangy sauce to mix with your favorite recipes.

6. Avocado Mayo:

If you are looking for a vegan mayo substitute, use avocado mayo. It is made with real avocado and completely plant based. This substitution is best as a sandwich spread and not to mix in with your salads or dressings.

Another sandwich spread idea is cashew cream. It can easily be made using cashews and water and blending it. It has the flavor as mayonnaise and is rich and creamy.

Honey Mustard or Dijon mustard can also be substituted for mayonnaise. It does have a tangy flavor like mayonnaise, you would only want to use it as a sandwich spread.

7. Pesto

Pesto is a paste like sauce that is made from pine nuts, nut butter, garlic and cheese. It does have a nuttier flavor than mayonnaise does, but it is a great alternative when looking for a creamy sandwich spread.

Pesto can also be used in pasta salad or added flavor to vegetables. The pop of color really is eye pleasing for many recipes.
