Step 5 – Add the chicken breasts to the air fryer in a single layer. You may have to work in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.  Spray the top of the chicken with the spray olive oil.

  • Step 6 – Air fry at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 6-8 minutes.  Flip the chicken and then air fry for 6-8 more minutes until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.  Use a meat thermometer for best results.
  • Step 7 – Remove the chicken from the air fryer.  Let them rest for 5 minutes.
  • Step 8 – Then the air fryer chicken breast is ready to serve and enjoy!

Expert Tips

  • Prepare Air Fryer – If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheat option, then run the air fryer for 5 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Seasoning Chicken – Make sure to leave air in the freezer bag when sealing the bag so that the chicken and seasoning mixture in the bag can move around easier.
  • Adding Oil to Air Fryer Basket – Do not spray the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray as it can damage the coating of the air fryer baskets. Rub the remaining olive oil onto the air fryer basket to keep the chicken from sticking to the basket.
  • Thaw Chicken – If you use frozen chicken breasts, make sure that the chicken breasts are thawed out completely before coating the chicken.
  • Same Size Chicken – Make sure that the chicken breasts are roughly the same thickness so that they cook evenly. Filet large chicken breasts or use a meat mallet to ensure that the chicken breasts are around the equal thickness.

  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil divided

See how we calculate recipe costs.

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. If your air fryer does not have a preheat setting, run it empty for 5 minutes at 400°F.
  • If needed, pound or butterfly the chicken breasts so they are an even thickness (about ¾ inch) for even cooking.
  • Pat the chicken dry with paper towels. Brush 1 tablespoon olive oil evenly over both sides of the chicken.
  • Pour the Shake 'N Bake coating into a large zip-top bag. Add the chicken, seal the bag with a little air inside, and shake until each piece is evenly coated.
  • Lightly brush or rub the air fryer basket with the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil. Do not use nonstick cooking spray directly on the basket, as it can damage the nonstick coating.
  • Place the chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between each piece. Cook in batches if necessary.
  • Lightly spray the tops of the chicken with olive oil cooking spray.
  • Air fry at 400°F for 6-8 minutes. Flip the chicken, spray the other side lightly with olive oil spray, and cook for another 6-8 minutes, or until the thickest part of the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
  • Transfer the chicken to a plate and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Recipe Notes

  • Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
  • Thaw frozen chicken completely before coating with the Shake ‘N Bake mixture.
  • Cooking time will vary depending on the thickness of the chicken breasts. Always use a meat thermometer to check for doneness.
  • Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket so the coating becomes crispy on all sides.
