Ingredients

- Baguette – We used French Bread. We usually get slice bread at our local bakery
- Roma Tomatoes – This is a great dish to serve during the summertime because the Roma plum tomatoes taste the best. During the other seasons, we use cherry tomatoes
- Salt – Use Pink Salt or Kosher Salt
- Fresh Basil Leaves – You can easily grab a bunch from the grocery store
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil – This gives the bread rich flavor and a crispy crust
- Balsamic Glaze – Use a quality balsamic for the best tangy flavor

How to Make Bruschetta

Step 1 – Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Slice the baguette on the diagonal into 24 slices that are approximately ½ inch thick. Place them on the baking sheet and brush the tops with 3 tablespoons of the olive oil. Bake for 4-6 minutes to toast bread.

Step 2 – Dice the tomatoes into small pieces and place them in a large mixing bowl. Stir in the salt, fresh basil and remaining olive oil. Toss until combined. Drain off any excess liquid from the tomatoes. Add in mince garlic clove for even more flavor.

Step 3 – Top each piece of bruschetta toast with the juicy tomatoes mixture and fresh herbs.

Step 4 – Top tomato bruschetta with a Drizzle of balsamic glaze. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Expert Tips
- Baking Sheet – For easy cleanup, we recommend to lining the baking sheet with parchment paper. This also helps to serve the bruschetta.
- Slicing Bread – Slice the bread about the same size with a sharp knife on a cutting board.
- Ripe Tomatoes – For the best flavor, we like to use tomatoes that are ripe.
- Juicy Mixture – If the tomato mixture has a lot of juice, then you may need to use a slotted spoon to add the mixture to the toasted bread.
- Entertaining Tip – For larger gatherings, double the tomato mixture and serve it alongside toasted bread so guests can build their own bruschetta.
- Prevent Soggy Bread – Wait to top the bread until ready to serve to keep the slices crisp.

- Assemble just before serving to prevent soggy bread.
- The tomato mixture can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance.
- We do not recommend freezing because tomatoes lose their texture after thawing.
Frequently Asked Questions
For the most traditional Bruschetta we used baguette French Bread but other options include Italian Bread or Ciabatta for sturdy, thick crust. Slice in 1/4-inch thick slices for the perfect serving.
Yes. Traditional bruschetta often skips the glaze entirely. The tomatoes, basil, and olive oil provide plenty of flavor on their own.
Tomatoes naturally release liquid as they sit. Drain excess liquid before spooning the mixture onto the bread.

This is an excellent classic recipe for Bruschetta. Unfortunately I was not able to find the specific Balsamic Vinegar recommended in the recipe, But I did find a very nice Balsamic Vinegar from the Moderna region and added a little Fig Spread to it and I got rave reviews from folks at the party where I served it. Several said it was the best Buschetta they had ever had. I think I have had better at as couple of very nice Italian Restaurants, but this was insanely good and far better than any I have had at a party.
Kent – You just made my day! Thank you so much for sharing. I’m so glad it was a win even with your changes to the recipe. Thank you so much for sharing – I really appreciate it!
This is better than when I get it at the restaurants
I served this for Easter, and it disappeared in minutes. I think it’s safe to say I’ll be serving this appetizer for every small or big occasion.
