Ingredients

Ingredients needed to make this recipe which includes bananas, butter, eggs, sugar, vanilla, baking soda, salt, flour, and chocolate chips.
  • Ripe Bananas – The riper the bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful the bread will be. Bananas with brown spots work best. If using frozen bananas, thaw them first and drain off any extra liquid.
  • Melted Butter – Butter adds richness and helps keep the banana bread moist. Let it cool slightly before mixing so it does not cook the eggs.
  • Large Eggs – Eggs help bind the ingredients together and give the bread structure.
  • Sugar – Granulated sugar adds sweetness and helps create a soft, tender crumb. Brown sugar can be used for a richer flavor.
  • Vanilla Extract – Adds warm flavor and brings out the sweetness of the bananas and chocolate chips.
  • Baking Soda – Helps the bread rise and keeps the texture light. Make sure your baking soda is fresh for the best results.
  • Salt – Balances the sweetness and enhances the banana and chocolate flavor.
  • All Purpose Flour – Gives the bread structure. Be careful not to overmeasure or overmix, which can make the bread dense.
  • Chocolate Chips – Semi-sweet chocolate chips work great, but milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or mini chocolate chips can also be used.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen bananas?

Yes. Thaw completely and drain excess liquid before mashing.

Why did bread sink in the middle?

When combining the ingredients, make sure to not overmix. This could cause the center sink and not using the right size of pan. Using the right size of pan allows the center to bake all the way through.

Can I add in Greek Yogurt?

Yes, you can add in Greek Yogurt or sour cream to the mixture. This allows the batter to be extra moist. Add ½ cup for a delicious addition to this family favorite banana bread recipe.

Why is my banana bread dry?

Too much flour or overbaking can cause dry bread.

Can I make chocolate chip banana bread into muffins?

Yes. Bake in a muffin tin at 350°F for approximately 18–22 minutes.

I was going to use the recipe that I usually use for banana bread, but I didn’t have the right ingredients for it. I am so so so so so so glad I used this one. The banana bread was so delicious. I used bananas that were very brown and mushy, but it still turned out great.
