These Jack O Lantern oranges are a unique and healthy Halloween Treat!
I love these fruit cups because they are healthier than your traditional treat. You just have to make your kids these cute Orange Jack-O-Lanterns filled with Fruit. They are going to love making them and enjoy them too!
Orange Jack O Lantern Fruit Cup Ingredients:
You only need 4 ingredients to make these easy and cute Orange Jack O Lantern fruit cups. Everyone is going to love these at your next Halloween party!
Here is what you’ll need.
- Oranges (I used Grapefruit Oranges)
- Blackberries
- Blueberries
- Strawberries (sliced)
How to make Jack O Lantern Oranges:
You are going to be surprised by how easy these are to make. Also, get the entire family involved as my kids loved helping make these too!
First rinse all fruit for this recipe and dry thoroughly.
Then use a straight edged knife on your grapefruit oranges. Turn the knife inward at an angle while making a complete circle around the top of the orange (just like you would for a pumpkin).
Next gently remove the top of your grapefruit orange and set top aside.
After the top has been removed, begin to remove the inside of the grape fruit orange by using a small spoon. Be very careful so you do not accidentally damage the orange during this process.
Place the grapefruit orange juice and pulp into a small, separate bowl. You can save the juice and serve as a refreshing drink next to your treats.
The juice is amazing in these oranges so definitely don’t throw this juice away!
How to carve your Jack O Lantern Fruit Cups:
Once the grapefruit orange is empty, use a small knife to cut out your jack-o-lantern face! Be creative. You can carve square eyes, triangle eyes, a smile, or big teeth.
This is the step that I got the kids involved for. My kids looked up different Jack O Lantern ideas when designing their faces.
I let my kids draw the faces on the oranges (gently) with a marker and then I carefully cut it our around their designs. They loved getting creative to make these adorable Jack-O-Latern faces!
After your adorable faces are complete, slice the very top from 3 strawberries. Use this as a garnish on top of your orange jack-o-lantern! You can secure it with a toothpick, or a dab of honey.
Then slice the strawberries into quarters and then in half again.
Next evenly distribute the blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries into each jack-o-lantern. Use a toothpick or tiny spoon to serve and enjoy!
Your family, friends, and children will love these friendly Halloween treats!
Variations you can make to these adorable Halloween fruit cups:
Here are a few ways that you can change up this recipe to make it work for your kids and your next Halloween Party.
Use whatever fruit is in season in your area or whatever is on sale!
I usually grapefruit oranges or regular oranges to make the Jack-O-Latern part of these fruit cups but you can use regular grapefruits as well.
Stuff the Jack-O-Laterns with your favorite type of fruit or frozen fruit! I usually use berries for this recipe as they are small and can easily fit in the oranges. But these would also be great stuffed with grapes or diced up apples (make sure to drizzle them with lemon juice so they don’t brown).
You can easily switch on this recipe with whatever fruit you have on hand in your pantry!
