Step 1 – In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, honey, Dijon mustard, vinegar, garlic powder, and paprika until smooth. Set honey mustard sauce aside.

Cast iron skillet with raw, chopped bacon pieces and a wooden spatula on a white marble surface—perfect for starting Alice Springs Chicken—next to a white and blue striped kitchen towel.

Step 2 – In a large oven safe skillet over medium heat, cook bacon until crispy. Remove to paper towels, then roughly chop.

A cast iron skillet with sliced mushrooms and onions being sautéed, stirred with a wooden spoon, on a white marble surface next to a striped kitchen towel—perfect toppings for homemade Alice Springs Chicken.

Step 3 – In the same skillet with bacon grease, sauté mushrooms and onions until softened and starting to brown, about 5-6 minutes. Remove the mushrooms and onions from the pan and clean out the pan.

Four raw, seasoned chicken breasts arranged in a black cast iron skillet on a white marble surface, inspired by the flavors of Alice Springs Chicken, with a striped kitchen towel nearby.

Step 4 – Heat the oil in the pan over medium high heat. Add the chicken to the pan in a single layer.  Season with salt and pepper.

A hand spoons creamy sauce over four cooked Alice Springs Chicken breasts in a black cast iron skillet on a white marble surface, with a striped kitchen towel beside the skillet.

Step 5 – Cook without moving the chicken for about 5 minutes per side to brown both sides of the chicken.  Remove from heat. Pour the honey mustard sauce over each chicken breast.

This was fantastic! I followed exactly but I made my bacon in the oven (twisted) and then poured the grease in my pan to still cook the mushrooms and onions. Big hit with my family! Thank you for the recipe. 🙂

We enjoyed this recipe! It wast straightforward to make and tasty. One note: I didn’t pound the chicken to an even thickness because I didn’t see that tip in time. I will try that if I make it again. I think the texture of the chicken will be better and the flavor more consistent in each bite if I follow hat instruction.

    1. Kathy - Eating on a Dime Team says:

Suzanne – I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for your feedback!

  17. Michelle Sims says:

Looks delicious!! I have a mustard allergy in the household. Would this sauce be just as good if I leave it out? Is there something that I could use in place of it?

    1. Carrie Barnard says:

Thank you! I’m so glad you think it looks delicious! The mustard does add a little tang to the sauce, but you can definitely leave it out if needed. If you’d like to replace it, you could try a little extra honey with a splash of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice to add a bit of tang. I hope that helps, and I hope you enjoy the recipe!

  18. Gina Young says:

Chicken, bacon, mushrooms, onion and cheese…next time I will add the sauce!!!sooo delicious!

I have eaten this at Outback but never thought of making it at home. I will definitely try it now. I do have a pet peeve though. Sometimes I use frozen ones I buy for convenience and they are usually on the smaller side

I’m so glad you’re going to give it a try! ? I think you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to make at home. And thank you for the feedback—that’s a great suggestion. This dish is amazing! Only substituted the bacon for turkey bacon because we eat kosher. Doesn’t crisp up like regular bacon but still gave it good flavor! 5 star recipe for us and it’s definitely going on the list of favorites, I’m always running out of ideas for chicken dishes but I’ve come to find that about 99% of the recipes I’ve used have been yours and I thank you lol!!!?

So outback has a blend of seasonings that goes on there product. They also dip the chicken in melted butter before they grill it.

    1. Carrie Barnard says:

Thanks so much for sharing that! ? That’s a great tip. The butter definitely adds extra flavor and helps keep the chicken juicy. It’s always fun to learn more about what makes the restaurant version so delicious. I appreciate you sharing!

Thank you so much for this recipe. I made it last night and followed the recipe almost to the T as they say. The only thing different I did was season the chicken with garlic powder, onion powder and paprika in addition to the salt and pepper called for

My 19 year old grandson came home from work last night just as I had finished making it. He said what are you cooking, and I told him that it was a copycat recipe of Alice Springs Chicken. His brother had been home all evening and although I normally just cook for myself I included an extra piece of chicken just in case he wanted some but he didn’t. His mom had ordered Domino’s for him and his sisters earlier in the evening and he said he didn’t want to waste it so I offered it to my 19 year old grandson and he said that he loves Alice Springs Chicken. He told me that is what he orders every time he goes to Outback. After he tasted it I asked him if it tasted the same and he said that it was very close only but I had made was better.

I’m 61 and I didn’t cook most of my life. I really only started learning how a little over 2 years ago. I love when I make something and my family or friends like it. His compliment felt really good and I have you to think for it. It really was delicious and will be something that I make often from now on.

I looked at quite a few recipes and they were all similar but some called for different cheeses were less bacon. The sauce wasn’t always exactly the same as yours but yours was what I decided to go with and I am so glad that I did. thank you again

    1. Kathy - Eating on a Dime Team says:

Carrie – This means so much and really brightens my day! Thank you for these kind words. I’m thrilled you loved it and so did your family. And wow – to say it was better than Outback! Thank you so much!
