Variations Ideas

  • Chocolate Chips – Feel free to change the chocolate chips to what you prefer. You can use white chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, or peanut butter chocolate chips. All great options for this delicious recipe.
  • Nut Free – If you prefer, you can still enjoy this cookie recipe without the nuts.
  • Change Nuts – We love the taste and texture of chopped walnuts but feel free to use chopped pecans or sliced almonds.
  • Oatmeal – Make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and add in about a cup of oatmeal.

Step by Step Instructions

  • Step 1 – Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. 
  • Step 2 – In a large bowl beat (with a stand up mixer or hand mixer), the ½ cup of butter, vegetable oil and both sugars.  Mix on medium speed for 2-3 minutes until the mixture is creamy.

Step 3 – Scrape down the sides of the bowl and then add in the eggs and vanilla.  Continue mixing until thoroughly combined.

Step 4 – In a separate bowl, stir together the flour, cornstarch, baking soda and salt.

Step 5 – Then mix the bowl of dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.  We recommend mixing this by hand so that the mixture does not get over mixed.

Step 6 – Next gently stir in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.

Step 7 – Then drop the cookie dough onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper in approximately 1 tablespoon amounts.

Step 8 – Bake for 8-10 minutes until the edges of the cookies are slightly brown.  Do not over bake.  The cookies may look raw in the middle but they will continue to cook as they set.

  • Step 9 – Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes and then move the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Step 10 – Then the cookies are ready to serve and enjoy.
