Instant Pot Meatball Stew Recipe

This one pot meal is comfort food at its best. Everything you need for a delicious and hearty meal is packed into this easy stew. My kids loved this quick and easy soup recipe. Everyone agreed it is packed with flavor!

No one even complained about eating their veggies.  The tender carrots have the best flavor with the meatballs.

This meal is on rotation with our meal plans during the month. It is a great way for everyone to get in their vegetables and have a complete easy meal as well.

Easy Meatball Stew can be ready in minutes. 

I am so guilty of forgetting to take something out of the freezer for dinner and going into a panic that evening. This stew is the perfect go to recipe when you only have a few minutes to cook and need dinner fast.

You truly can have a delicious home cooked meal in under 10 minutes. The entire family will love this meal.

Can I use Homemade Meatballs for this recipe?

If you prefer to make Homemade Meatballs you easily can with this recipe. Some people prefer to make them over using the frozen meatballs.

If you have the time and want to make them from scratch, I would do it. They are better for you and you know exactly what ingredients you are putting in the meatballs.

Ingredients needed for Meatball Stew - Frozen meatballs, onion, celery, carrots, potatoes, minced garlic, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper, italian seasoning, beef broth

Ingredients for Instant Pot Meatball Stew:

  • Frozen Meatballs – You can also make Homemade Meatballs.
  • Onion – Finely chop the onions.
  • Celery
  • Carrots
  • Russet Potatoes – peeled and diced
  • Minced Garlic
  • Tomato Paste
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Beef Broth

How to make Meatball Stew in the Instant Pot:

  • Combine the carrots, onion and the remaining ingredients in the Instant pot.
  • Stir to combine.
  • Add the lid, set the valve to sealing.
  • Cook on High Pressure for 8 min.
  • Do a quick release to release the pressure.
  • Stir and serve immediately.

How long do you cook meatballs in instant pot?

This recipe is one of the quickest meals and so delicious. I did 8 minutes pressure and the stew was so tender and amazing. The meatballs had so much flavor and tasted like the stew had been slow cooked all day.

Variations for Meatball Stew:

We love recipes that we change to ingredients that have one hand or change the protein. Try these other variations:

  • Change the protein – Substitute the meatballs with ground turkey, ground pork or ground chicken. You can also use vegetarian meatballs.
  • Stew Meat – In a pinch, I will use stew meat instead of meatballs.
  • Frozen Vegetables – Save time and use frozen vegetables.
  • Make in your Slow Cooker – If you have the time in the morning, you can make this meatball stew in your crock pot.

Tips for Meatball Stew Instant Pot recipe:

  • We used frozen meatballs but you can use fully cooked meatballs. Just adjust the time.
  • The recipe calls for tomato paste but you can substitute tomato soup if in a pinch.
  • Ground beef can be used instead of meatballs for a change.
  • Use an a packet of onion soup mix instead of chopped onion.

Everyone raves about this stew when I serve it. Each bite is full of delicious meatballs, carrots and more. It is so easy, frugal and a crowd pleaser.

The tender and juicy meatballs will be a hit with the entire family. Instant pot meatball soup is a family favorite around here.

We love the pressure cooker and even have just made instant pot meatballs with bread crumbs in the pressure cooker in under 30 minutes. Just omit the bread crumbs if gluten free.

Do you need a new Instant Pot?

I am using an 8 quart Instant pot but you can use a 6 quart. I personally have an Instant Pot and so far I am loving it.

It’s really changed dinner time around here.

  • Combine everything in the Instant pot.
  • Stir to combine.
  • Add the lid, set the valve to sealing.
  • Cook on high pressure for 8 min.
  • Do a quick release to release the pressure from the instant pot by moving the valve from the sealing position to the venting position.
  • Stir and serve immediately while warm. Enjoy!

    Made this last night and it’s definitely a keeper! I added some fresh tomatoes, because I had some that needed to be used up. At the end, I also added some cornstarch just to thicken the sauce to my personal taste. It was fast and easy. Will make again for sure!

    I think the time would probably be the same but I would add 1 cup water or beef broth to ensure that the pressure cooker is able to come to pressure. Thank you!

    I just discover ed this because I am trying my instant pot for the first time and have a recipe similar to this, Mexican meatball soup. It requires more liquid with 1c of salsa and a 28oz can of diced tomatoes. Do I need to adjust the time or the amount of liquid? Thanks!
