These Grilled Green Beans are the recipe that completely changed the way my family thinks about vegetables — slightly charred, tender, and full of smoky flavor that you simply cannot get from the stovetop. Even my husband and kids who normally avoid vegetables clean their plates every single time.

I actually used to hate fresh green beans — until I realized I had been cooking them wrong my whole life. Grilling them in a foil pack completely changed the way I think about vegetables and the smoky charred flavor makes all the difference.

My family loves Grilled Broccoli and Grilled Brussels Sprouts so it was no surprise they fell in love with these too — even my reluctant husband and kids who normally shy away from vegetables clean their plates every time. I use heavy duty foil so cleanup is a breeze and my kitchen stays completely clean which is always a win in a house with 8 kids.

Ingredients

Ingredients needed - fresh green beans, olive oil, salt and pepper, foil
  • Fresh Green Beans – You can also use frozen green beans as well.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil – You could use Non Stick Spray, or avocado oil
  • Salt and Pepper – I love to stick with basic seasonings but garlic and paprika also taste great
  • Foil

Step 5 – Wrap Green Beans in Foil – Fold into a aluminum foil pack.  Heat your grill to medium high heat.

Step 6 – Cook Green Beans – Place the foil packet on direct heat or in a grill pan. Close the lid on the grill. Cook for 5-8 minutes on each side on direct flames.

Step 7 – Check Green Beans for doneness – Carefully open the foil packet and make sure that a bean is done. Since everything is protected in your foil packet, you don’t have to worry about how you place the packet on the grill grates.

How to Trim Green Beans

  • Get about 15 green beans and place on a cutting board. Line the green beans up in a uniform manner lengthwise. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
  • Take a Sharp Knife and with one holding the green beans and then cut the end off the green beans. I try to get right above the tip and cut.
  • Then line up the other end of the green beans and cut the other side of the green beans.

HI–want to make these tonight. Pictures all show butter, but no butter mentioned in recipe. Is there butter or no? Thank you

    1. Carrie says:

You can use butter instead of olive oil if you prefer. I used a tablespoon of butter cut into 2 pieces so it’s even over the green beans before. Thank you!
