How to Make Mango Salsa

Step 1 – Chop and add mangoes, red onions, pepper, jalapeño pepper and cilantro to large bowl.

Step 2 – Stir to combine the ingredients for the fresh mango salsa recipe

Step 3 – Next, juice lime and pour over salsa. Season with salt, pepper and ground cumin if using. Stir to combine.

Step 4 – Cover and place in refrigerator at least 15 minutes before serving. Serve with tortilla chips and fresh lime juice. Store leftovers (if you have any) in the refrigerator up to 2 days.
Best Mangoes for Mango Salsa
Choose ripe mangoes that give slightly when gently squeezed and smell sweet near the stem. Ataulfo or Champagne mangoes are especially sweet and creamy, but any ripe mango will work. If your mangoes are firm, let them sit at room temperature for a few days before making the salsa.
Expert Tips
- Prepare Vegetables – This recipe like many calls for diced onions and bell peppers. Another time saving tip is to use a small food chopper or food processor to quickly and easily chop the onions and peppers. You can also chop with a sharp knife on a cutting board.
- Dice Ingredients – For best results and for easy serving, chop the fruit and vegetables into bite size pieces.
- Mangos – We like to peel the flesh from the mangos and remove the pit before dicing for best results.
Variations Ideas
- Pineapple – Sometimes, we like to add fresh pineapple to this recipe. It goes so well with the other ingredients and adds even more flavor. It adds a bit of sweetness and pairs nicely with the jalapeño and mango.
- Add Avocado – Dice an avocado and add to your salsa for a new twist. It is very good and is perfect for snacking. You can also top chicken, fish or tacos with it for great flavor.
- Peaches – Peaches can be substituted for the ripe mangos.
- Black Beans – Add black beans to the salsa for a heartier salsa recipe.
- Bell Peppers – Red peppers are great but try using yellow or green bell peppers as well. Sometimes, I use all 3 and it looks so pretty with the onion cilantro mixture.
- Onions – We use red onion but any type you have on hand will be delicious.
- Tomatoes – Tomatoes are a great addition to this salsa. You can easily dice Roma Tomatoes and add for amazing flavor.
- Make it milder – Remove the jalapeño seeds and membranes, or leave out the jalapeño and use extra bell pepper instead.

Oh my WOW! I made this mango salsa last weekend and it was a HIT! I put it all in my food processor, so it wasn’t pretty and chopped, but it still was incredible! Thank you Carrie for all of these amazing recipes!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. I’m so glad that it was hit!
Sooo tasty, especially on a hot summer afternoon! Followed directions as written, except I didn’t remove jalapeno seeds. I like spicy! Let it sit in fridge for a few hours; the flavor is really amped up. Served with homemade baked tortilla chips. Will definitely make again!
