Skillet Green Bean Casserole Recipe:

We love to make Green Bean Casserole for all our holiday dinners. But the oven can get a little crowded with the turkey, ham and all the other sides. Making our favorite casserole in the skillet has kept our tradition alive.

If you have the room in your oven, make our classic Green Bean Casserole. It is still loaded with flavor, the crispy fried onions always are a must. This classic side dish never fails, whether we make it in the oven, skillet or crock pot. It always turns out delicious.

The best thing about this recipe, is every thing is cooked in the skillet. The ingredients are simple and all the flavors of our favorite side dish made right in the skillet.

What is Skillet Green Bean Casserole?

Skillet Green Bean Casserole from scratch takes your classic recipe and cooks everything in the skillet over medium heat. The onions and minced garlic is cooked then the remaining ingredients are added. These ingredients are mixed together and topped with fried onions.

We like to place in the oven to broil for for a few minutes to crisp up the fried onions. The results is the best recipe and it took less than 20 minutes and your classic casserole is done.

How to Make Green Bean Casserole in a Skillet:

  • In a large cast iron skillet, melt the butter over medium high heat.  Then add the diced onions and sauté until the onions are translucent. Then add in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minutes until the garlic is aromatic.

Can I use Fresh or Frozen Green Beans?

We used can green beans in this recipe. But you can use fresh green beans or frozen green beans if you prefer. You may just need to cook a little longer to fully cook the green beans.

  • Mushrooms

Tips:

  • Cast Iron Skillet – I love making this recipe in a cast iron skillet so that the pan can go from the stovetop to the oven.  If you do not have a cast iron skillet, this can be made in a large skillet and just skip the broiling of the top of the casserole.
  • No need to Cover – After the green bean casserole is done cooking, you do not need to cover.
  • Serve Immediately – We recommend serving this green bean casserole as soon as it is done.

How to Store Leftovers:

This casserole is best served fresh as soon as you are done making it. But you can refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
