I’ve had a home meat slicer for six years and it’s still going strong! Since the one I own is an older model, for my top pick I chose an option that’s most similar to my favorite: the Beswood Premium Electric Meat Slicer.
I love that this commercial-grade meat slicer is a workhorse thanks to its chromium-plated steel blade. You don’t have to sharpen the blade (a big pro!), and the skidproof rubber feet and blade ring guard are great safety features.
This Beswood model is on the pricier side, but since I use my food slicer often, I think it’s definitely worth paying for a high-quality model. I love that the large blade stands up to how often I want to use it so I know I won’t have to buy a new one anytime soon.

Cuisinart is a popular, well-known appliance brand, so it’s no surprise that this model is one of the best meat slicers for home use. I’m all about saving money and I love that it’s way more affordable than other options I’ve found. It doesn’t sacrifice any features or functionality, either — it has a removable 7.5-inch serrated blade, a stainless steel removable carriage, and a slice control knob that adjusts from thin slices to thick ½-inch slices.
If you’re like me and love to serve easy, yummy meals like Turkey Melt Sandwiches, this model is perfect for occasional home use. Other Meat Slicers I’ve Researched
This electric meat slicer from Vevor is a good option if you live in an apartment or have limited storage space in your kitchen, as it can fold closed, and can also be hung on a pantry hook. However, because it’s on the smaller side, it may not be as powerful as other options on our list, and it doesn’t have a ton of reviews, either. The Vevor Folding Meat Slicer is available at Amazon for $149.99.
On the more affordable side, this deli food slicer comes with two blades and a tray to put the food on after you have sliced it. It may not be very durable, though, as it is mostly made of aluminum and plastic. Also, the instructions recommend using it for only five minutes at a time, then letting it cool down before using it again. The Anescra Electric Deli Food Slicer is available at Amazon for $119.76.
A lot of people who shop at Cabela’s are hunters or sportsmen, so this pricey commercial meat slicer might make sense. The 12-inch blade is bigger than all of the other meat slicers I looked at, so it should be able to handle anything. But it only has a 3.9-star rating on Cabela’s site, with some people saying that the guide is too far from the blade so meat squishes out and makes for inconsistent slices. If you plan on processing a lot of meat at one time to load into the freezer or expect to use the slicer every day, you may want to spend a bit more on a heavy-duty model. But if you’re just going to use it a few times a year, maybe for Thanksgiving leftovers or a family reunion cookout, you can get by with a meat slicer for light use.
- Blade Size: Most slicer blades measure anywhere from 7 to 12 inches. In general, home machines have smaller blades and commercial units have larger ones. But blade size also impacts the type of slicing you want to do. For example, you’ll have better results slicing your own bacon with a larger blade diameter. Make sure you consider the size of the meats you want to work with and invest in a home meat slicer that will meet your needs.
- Horsepower: Just like any tool, how much horsepower the motor has will affect the performance of even the best home or commercial meat slicers. In general, you will find 100 to 300 watts, but it varies. Some less powerful home meat slicers are only meant to be used for a few minutes at a time and need to take breaks (I get it, so do I!). Can You Slice Meat on a Mandoline?
It is possible to use a mandoline to slice meat, but it does have limitations. For a mandoline to work well, the meat has to be completely frozen or cured. A mandoline is not as wide as a home meat slicer, so it can only be used on small cuts of meat. Also, it’s possible that the blade won’t be sharp enough to cut through a lot of fat. So a mandoline might work if you don’t have anything better, but it’s not really recommended for use on meat.

Most of the home meat slicers I recommend can be found at common and convenient retailers like Amazon, Target, Home Depot, Williams Sonoma, and Wayfair. Sporting and outdoor shops like Cabela’s and LEM also sell them. If you’re looking for a very heavy-duty commercial meat slicer, you can even shop at restaurant supply vendors.
How Often Should a Meat Slicer Be Cleaned?
You need to clean your meat slicer after every use! Remember, raw meat can harbor bacteria and you need to clean and sanitize the machine just like you would a butcher block. Most meat slicers can be disassembled easily so you can thoroughly clean and sanitize each piece in hot water and dish soap.
Some models may come with parts that can go in the top rack of your dishwasher, which is super convenient. You should also at least wipe it down between slicing different food items, like if you switch from meat to cheese.
How Long Is Sliced Deli Meat Good For?
In general, sliced deli meat will keep in your fridge for 3 to 5 days. That’s not very long! One benefit to using a meat slicer is that you can process bulk amounts and freeze food for later. Frozen deli meat is best when used within 2 months, but can be frozen indefinitely, in theory. But for best results, taste and quality, try to use it within 2 months.
How to Sharpen a Meat Slicer Blade
Higher-quality meat slicers often come with built-in blade sharpeners, which I love! But if yours does not have that, you can still sharpen it yourself. Either way, definitely make sure the blade is very clean before you sharpen it!
Make sure your unit is unplugged, then remove the blade using the manufacturer’s instructions. You’ll also need to apply some blade-sharpening oil. Then use a medium-grit whetstone on a flat surface, holding the blade about a 20-degree angle to the stone.
Drag the stone across the blade a few times on one side, then flip the blade and do the same on the other side. Finish the blade off with a honing rod, also passing that over each side several times. Then carefully wipe the blade down to remove any metal flakes, and reattach the blade to the meat slicer.
