Why This Recipe Works

We love this creamy cannoli dip is loaded with flavor and is a great dip for any occasion. It is the perfect sweet treat and the best part is that it is a no bake dessert. Serve it with fruit, cookies or graham crackers for a crowd pleasing dip.

Ingredients

  • Cream Cheese – You can also use Mascarpone Cheese. Cream cheese is just as good but be sure to use the full fat one and softened it to room temperature.
  • Ricotta Cheese – Be sure to use whole milk Ricotta Cheese. This is a traditional ingredient in Cannoli’s and this give it the flavor you desire.
  • Powdered Sugar – This gives it the light and fluffy texture that we all love.
  • Vanilla Extract – A few drops of Vanilla Extract adds the right amount of sweetness to this easy dip recipe.
  • Miniature Chocolate chips – We love using mini chocolate chips. But you can use the larger chocolate chips as well. You can also use a chop up chocolate bar if you prefer.

Variations Ideas

  • Cannoli Shells – Use Authentic Cannoli Shells to use this Homemade Cannoli Dip to fill the shells. We love Cannoli’s so we all love this this easy recipe.
  • Heavy Whipping Cream – Some recipes call for heavy whipping cream. You definitely can add it, but it is not necessary.
  • Orange Zest – You can add in some orange zest even if you are not a huge orange fan. We love the flavor it gives to this dip. You can even add in lemon zest.
  • Cinnamon – Adding some cinnamon is delicious in this dip.
  • Try adding in some nuts – Walnuts, pistachio or pecans would add that extra crunch that would be great for this dip. I would recommend adding right before serving so that do not get soggy for the best cannoli dip recipe.

How to Make Cannoli Dip

  • Step 1 – Mix together the cream cheese, ricotta and powdered sugar together with a hand held mixer in a large bowl or electric mixer for 3-5 minutes until well combined.  After adding in the powder sugar and vanilla extract, mix until combined (1-2 minutes).

Expert Tips

  • Consistency – If your cannoli dip isn’t think enough, you can add in whipped cream or whipped topping to thicken it up.
  • Ricotta – Using fresh ricotta is best in this recipe. The jarred or pre-packaged ricotta has a higher water content.
  • Combining Ingredients – Combine the ingredients with a hand mixer in a mixing bowl or a bowl of a stand mixer. This helps to create a smooth and creamy texture.
  • Chocolate Chips – When serving, we like to top with the dip with semi-sweet chocolate chips. This helps to create a crunchy texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Make Ahead of Time?

This is the perfect dip to make ahead of time. I think it tastes better when I make it night before I am serving it. Just store in the refrigerator covered until you are ready to serve. Once you are ready to serve, set out for about 30 minutes prior to serving. This way it softens some so you are able to easily dip you favorite items in the dip.

How to Store Leftover Cannoli Dip

If you have leftovers, store the leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days. I like to set this out for my family for a snack before bedtime. Everyone enjoys it and it is the perfect bedtime snack.

Can I Freeze Cannoli Dip?

We do not recommend freezing this cannoli dip. Ricotta has a high water content so the dip does not thaw well and with the best texture.
