Ingredients

Ingredients needed to make this recipe which includes Blueberries, Strawberries, bananas, lime, and honey.
  • Strawberries – Fresh strawberries add the red color and sweet flavor to this 4th of July Fruit Salad. Wash, dry, and cut them in half or into bite-sized pieces for easy serving.
  • Fresh Blueberries – Blueberries give the salad its patriotic blue color. Fresh blueberries work best because they hold their shape and do not release extra liquid like frozen berries.
  • Bananas – Bananas add the white color and a creamy texture. Slice them into thick chunks and add them close to serving time so they stay fresh.
  • Honey – Honey lightly sweetens the fruit and helps create the simple dressing. You can adjust the amount based on how sweet your fruit already is.
  • Fresh Lime – Fresh lime juice brightens the fruit salad and balances the sweetness from the honey. Lemon juice can also be used if that is what you have on hand.

Tips for Success

  • Cut Fruit – I like to cut the fruit in bite-sized pieces to easily serve. You can even use a star-shaped cookie cutter to change the shape or cut into white stars.
  • Fruit Salad Dressing – We made a simple dressing for this side dish. We made it out of honey and lime, but you can use what you prefer. Make a dressing out of lemon juice or orange juice. Add in a tablespoon of vanilla for a warm flavor.
  • Fruit – Feel free to change the fruit to what you prefer. There are many red fruits and white fruits to choose from. I have even mixed in some fresh mint for the perfect addition.
  • Bananas – If you are worried about the bananas turning brown, simply stir ¼ cup of lemon juice with a banana. When you are ready to serve drain the lemon juice from the bananas then mix with the other fruit.

Made this modified: dressed each bowl of berries, made the variation “cheesecake” custard you suggested, mixed bananas with it and made a layered trifle. I used more creamer and a small.pudding mix. Everyone loved it next to the 7-layer dip dressed as an American flag. Easy, delicious and fun! Thank you!
