What kind of bacon to use?

When making a bacon sandwich, you really can use any type of bacon. I have even made this sandwich with Baked turkey bacon. I like to get the classic cut bacon and I usually choose the smoky flavor.

Whether you choose turkey or regular bacon, pile it high on thick cut bread for a delicious breakfast sandwich.

Ingredient for recipe: White bread, butter, bacon.

How to Make Bacon Sandwich

Follow my easy instructions to learn how you can make your own bacon sandwich.

  • Step 1 – Cook Bacon Strips – Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until the bacon is crispy.

  • Step 2 – Move Cooked bacon to plate – Move the slices of bacon from the pan to the plate. Make sure it is lined with a paper towel. This allows it to soak up the excess grease.  Remove the bacon grease except for approximately 1 tablespoon from the pan (to cook the sandwich in).

  • Step 3 – Spread Butter – Spread the butter on the outside of each slice of bread. This is called a bacon butty.

  • Step 4 – Heat Skillet – Heat the skillet with the reserved bacon grease over medium high heat.
  • Step 5 – Place bread in skillet – Place 1 slice of the bread (butter side down) in the skillet.  Top with crispy bacon slices and the remaining slice of bread (butter side out).

What is the Best Bread to Use?

When we make this bacon sandwich we like to use thick white bread. We love the flavour and texture of the thicker bread. But you can use any type of bread. Here are some of our suggestions.

  • Wheat Bread
  • Bagel

Recipe Tips

  • Cook Bacon – Feel free to cook your bacon ahead of time. Make sure to reserve some of the grease to cook the sandwich in. Cook bacon until it is crispy. Allow bacon to rest on paper towel plate to remove excess grease.
  • Cooking Sandwich – We like to toast the sandwich in the skillet for the delicious flavor. But you can easily toast the bread in a toaster and then build you sandwich.
  • Serving – This sandwich is best served immediately.

Topping Ideas

This bacon sandwich recipe is a base recipe that can be changed to you what you prefer. We love to have different toppings for everyone to make their own. These are some of our favorites and must haves.

  • Cheese – Make sure to have different types of cheeses. You can do slice sharp cheddar cheese, goat cheese or pepper jack cheese. Heat on the skillet until cheese is melted.
  • Vegetables – You may have heard of a BLT sandwich which consists of bacon, lettuce and juicy tomatoes. Feel free to add other veggies such as arugula, spinach, avocado or caramelized onions.
  • Sauces – There is nothing better than adding your favorite sauces to this sandwich. Chilli sauce, ketchup, mustard, mayo or ranch are some of our favorites.
  • Egg – Make an ultimate breakfast sandwich by adding a fried egg or scramble egg on top.
  • Add Meat – For the perfect lunch idea, add chicken, burger or ham for a tasty lunch idea.
