How to freeze peppers:

Every time I get a nice deal on bell peppers, I purchase at least 6 or so and start chopping. I chop them all up like you would for dinner and place in a quart freezer bag. (You can get a pretty good deal on Amazon)

Then place the bag in the freezer. They should stay fresh in the freezer for about 6 months.

Now when we are having spaghetti, chili, or another yummy dinner that requires green peppers, I can simply take them from the bag frozen.

They might stick together. No biggy…. just give them a quick bang on the counter and they break apart easily.

This will make any easy dish or crockpot meal, even easier! You may have to bang the bag on the counter once, but the peppers will separate, so you can take out only what you need for that one meal.

Also, you can do this with any kind of peppers or peppers you have grown in your garden.

If you are new to gardening check out this post on How to start a garden. You can also slice them if you want to have on hand for fajitas or a stir fry dinner . The possibilities are endless!

A few tips- Make sure to wear gloves if using hot peppers. Also, once you freeze bell peppers you will love the convenience of grabbing a few when you need them. Use heavy duty freezer bags to prevent freezer burn.

Time saving tip:

Another time saving tip is to use a small food chopper or food processor to quickly and easily chop onions and bell peppers.

If you do not have one of these, I highly recommend them. They are such a time saver and you make cooking so fast and easy.

I usually just chop the entire vegetable and freeze what I don’t need. It’s so nice to be able to just take the diced onion out of the freezer for recipes.

This is how I meal prep. It’s so quick and easy and helps get dinner on the table fast.

  1. I didn’t know that Bell Peppers can be frozen! This is a great way to prevent waste and to add them in whatever dish I cook, not to mention saving time. Thank you for sharing your tip Miss Carrie!

  2. My problem when I freeze bellll be peppers n freezer bag. Is ice forms inside the bag. How can I prevent that problem. Thanks Alicia

  3. I have not tried vacuum sealing so I’m not sure if they would keep longer or not. I usually use the frozen ones in my recipes as they do not stay crunchy once they are thawed. However, they are perfect to cook with!

  4. Will they keep longer if vacuum sealed or do you recommend that method? I like my veggies crisp in some dishes so once these thaw will they stay crisp?

  5. I’ve been doing this for years, but I mix them. I love my peppers and onion mix for my favorite omelet, in my soups, casseroles, and so much more.
I found a manual chopper at amazon that I just love and it has more tools to fit it. Ultra Chef Express Food Chopper

  6. To keep them from sticking together I cut them spread on a cookie sheet in a single layer, freeze for 2-3 hours then put in freezer bag.
