I modified it wee bit. I did velvet the chicken to ensure that it stayed moist, I added two tablespoons of soy paste to the sauce and swapped out the sesame seeds for some cashews just because I wanted a bit more crunch.

I served it with plain fried rice in a flour tortilla with extra scallions. It was very similar to a simple dinner I used to make 30 years ago but had long since lost the chicken recipe.

I will definitely make this again for one of my “carbs be damned” meals 🙂

This was super yummy! I did create my own variation by blending the sauce (1/2 cup water and hoisin sauce) with 1 lrg garlic clove, equal parts fresh peeled ginger, and the juice from half a lemon, and voila! It’s a great sauce to pour over any meat. I poured it over ground turkey and simmered it for a few minutes (along with a dash of salt and pepper) and it came out delicious!
