Shrimp is one my family’s favorite Easy Seafood Recipes. Shrimp cooks easily on the grill but often times make it on the stovetop. It can be served as a main dish or as an appetizer as it cooks so quickly.

If you have made our Shrimp Yakisoba, Panko Shrimp, Hibachi Shrimp or Blackened Shrimp Tacos then you are going to love this Grilled Shrimp Recipe.

Why This Recipe Works

Grilled Shrimp always has amazing taste! You can easily change the Grilled Shrimp Marinade to what you prefer for a delicious variation.

We love that the shrimp cooks with amazing flavor while still remaining juicy. This is my go-to meal when I need a quick and healthy dinner idea.

Ingredients

Ingredients - Raw Shrimp, olive oil, lemon juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes

Variations Ideas

  • Seasoning – Feel free to add in fresh herbs or other types of spices. Add ½ tsp of paprika, cayenne pepper or onion powder.
  • Cooking Method – We like to grill on a gas grill or a charcoal grill but you can also cook on an indoor grill or in a cast-iron skillet.

How to Make Grilled Shrimp

Combining the marinade ingredient in a bowl with a whisk

Step 1 – Whisk together all the ingredients except for the shrimp in a medium size.

Step 2 – Place the shrimp in the bowl. Cover and allow the shrimp to marinade refrigerated for at least 20 minutes or up to 2 hours. Do not marinade longer than 2 hours or the lemon juice will start to break down the shrimp.

Step 3 – Preheat a grill over medium high heat. Clean the grill grates and rub oil over the grates to prevent the shrimp from sticking to the grill. Place the marinated shrimps directly on the grill

Step 4 – Cook for approximately 2-3 minutes per side until the shrimp is cooked through and pink. Remove from the grill. Serve immediately while warm topped with fresh parsley and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Prepare Shrimp – You can easily use shrimp with tails on or tails removed for this recipe. Just make sure that the shrimp is peeled and deveined before marinating.
  • Grilled Shrimp Kabobs – I like to grill jumbo shrimp directly on the grill grates.  However, if you cannot find jumbo shrimp in your area, thread the shrimp on skewers to prevent them from falling through the grill grates.  If you use wooden skewers, make sure to soak them in water for 30 minutes to prevent them from burning.
  • Prepare Grill – Make sure to oil the grill grates to prevent the shrimp from sticking to the grill.

How to Know When Grilled Shrimp is Done

You will know that the Shrimp is fully cooked when the outside texture will pink and completely opaque. The shrimp will also be firm to the touch.

Make sure to not overcook the shrimp as it could cause the shrimp to be tough and rubbery.

What to Serve With Grilled Shrimp?

Grilled Shrimp is delicious served with many Side Dish Recipes. It makes a great main dish but we have even served as an appetizer recipe when we are hosting a summertime party.

For a quick dinner add a side of Microwave Baked Potatoes, Best Mashed Potatoes, Best Grilled Asparagus, and Grilled Broccoli.

We have even made Grilled Shrimp Tacos with a side of Guacamole Recipe and Mango Salsa for a tasty meal idea.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it Best to Cook Shrimp in Butter or Oil?

We cooked the shrimp in olive oil which gives the shrimp a nice sear but butter gives the shrimp a buttery, rich flavor. You can also combine the two options to cook shrimp.

Do You Place Shrimp Directly on the Grill Grates?

Yes, we placed the shrimp directly on the grill but if you are worried about the shrimp falling through the grill cook in a grill pan. You can make Grilled Shrimp Skewers or Grilled Shrimp Foil Packets for another easy meal idea.

Can I Use Frozen Shrimp?

We prefer to grill fresh shrimp. But if you prefer, you can use frozen shrimp just make sure to thaw completely according to the package directions.

Storage and Reheating Tips

  • Storing – Store any leftover shrimp in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
  • Reheating – This reheats well in the oven at 300 degrees in a baking dish lined with aluminum foil for about 5 minutes. You can also reheat in the microwave on a paper towel lined plate in 30 second increments. Make sure to not overheat.

Could I use an indoor electric grill? I have one that gives me the option of grates or flat griddle. I can’t wait to try this and add to some garlic pasta!!
