Ingredients for cake waffles:
- 1 cake mix (any flavor)
- oil, water and egg according to the cake mix package
How to make cake mix waffles:
Step 1: Prepare your Cake mix as directed.
I used a white cake mix, because that is what I had on hand, but you could use any flavor. I am thinking chocolate and even lemon would be wonderful!
Step 2: Heat up your waffle maker and spray with nonstick spray.
Step 3: Pour cake batter in waffle maker.
Be careful not to fill it up too much. It expands quite a bit.
Step 4: Allow it to cook for about 3-4 minutes.
It doesn’t take long, and you can enjoy a delicious cake!
Cake mix waffle topping ideas:
Top it with some icing, whipped topping, or eat it plain. We have even topped it with ice cream!
You can also mix in some additions for an extra treat! We tried Chocolate Chip and Butterscotch chips and they were a hit.
To be honest… butterscotch chips were my absolute favorite. In fact… I may have loved it a bit too much. 😉

I used just under a 1/3 of a cup and that seemed to work the best for my waffle maker.

About how many does one box mix make?
What great idea you have. I think I will use funfetti cake mix or add in blueberries with a white cake mix. YUm? Thanks for sharing
I used Duncan Hines Spice Cake mix with a 15 oz can of pumpkin!
3 eggs, 1/2 cup milk and no oil, 1/2 cup dark brown sugar. Heat waffle iron while you are mixing…beat eggs, pumpkin, milk and brown sugar. Add box of mix. Don’t overheat. Follow your waffle maker instructions making sure to spray before adding batter. I have a flip maker…took about 4-5 minutes. THEY WERE JUST FABULOUS!!!
Delicious! Thank you!
Oh my! My grandchildren loved them!! They don’t always agree upon what to have for breakfast! We have tried it twice and they love experimenting with sprinkles, chocolate chips and toppings.
Thank you for sharing this!
I substituted gluten free and still delicious
Grandkids loved these. Great for a breakfast birthday too!
My granddaughter loved these. I got some canned cream cheese frosting and thinned it with milk to use instead of syrup! Yumm!!
I love this as well as my kiddos. They have so much fun with the idea of cake for breakfast. We use the funfetti mix quite often. We always add a dash of flavored creamer to the mix as well. It’s so yummy and sweet enough they don’t ask for syrup, just a dollop of whipped cream. Thank you for sharing.
