How to Make French Onion Beef and Noodles

Step 1 – Heat the olive oil in a large pot or skillet over medium high heat. Add the beef and season with the onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Step 2 – Cook for 3-5 minutes until beef is seared on all sides. Add French onion soup and beef broth to the pot and bring to a simmer.

Step 3 – Add the lid, simmer the beef on low for 45 minutes to help make the beef tender, then add the egg noodles and simmer for 10 more minutes, stirring occasionally until the noodles are soft and cooked.

Step 4 – Remove the pan from the heat.  Stir in the sour cream and parmesan cheese. Sprinkle with french onions and serve.

  • Simmer Beef Mixture – Make sure to let the beef simmer on low so that it is tender. Check the beef and if it’s not fork tender after cooking for 45 minutes, continue to cook on low until the beef is tender.  Add more liquid or broth if needed.
  • Cutting Beef – Make sure to cut the beef about the same size so they cook evenly in the skillet.
  • Type of Skillet – You can use any type of skillet but make sure it is large and deep enough to hold all the liquid, beef, and noodles to cook completely.
  • Leftover Meat – If you have leftover diced beef, feel free to use it to make this recipe. Just skip the recipe steps to cook them meat and continue with the other steps.

  • Add Vegetables – Feel free to add in vegetables such as bell peppers, slice mushrooms, or diced zucchini.
  • Substitute Noodles – You can substitute the noodles to what you prefer. You can even make with gluten-free noodles.
  • Creamier Texture – If you prefer a creamier texture by adding in a ½ block of cream cheese.

Yes, this is a great recipe to make in the slow cooker. Toss all the ingredients in the slow cooker except the noodles, sour cream, cheese and French Fried Onions. Cook on low for about 4-6 hours.
