What is Salsa Verde made of?
Salsa verde gives any dish such a delicious flavor. It is made with tomatillos, jalapeno peppers, garlic, onion, cilantro and more.
The combination is really something special and it blends for an amazing salsa. We have a super easy recipe for homemade salsa verde that is a must try!
- boneless skinless chicken breasts
- salsa verde (try homemade Salsa Verde de Tomatillo Recipe)
- monterey jack cheese (optional, but we love it with cheese)
- cilantro to top (optional)
How to make salsa verde chicken:
First, go ahead and preheat your oven. Now that you have that taken care of, let’s make this super tasty chicken.
Second, you will need a 9×13 pan and I like to use cooking spray. This helps to make clean up easier.
Next, put the chicken in the pan and pour the salsa all over the chicken. Make sure the chicken is totally covered.
You can use store bought salsa verde but we love to make homemade salsa verde. It is very easy. Promise. 🙂
Finally, just bake the chicken. It takes less than 30 minutes and you get the most tender and flavor packed chicken.
Now, this last step is optional but totally worth it. I like to top the chicken with cheese and cilantro once it is finished cooking.
Lastly, broil for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and oh my! What a fabulous dinner you have.
Remove chicken and enjoy. It is so good.
What to serve with salsa verde chicken:
Top it with any optional toppings or enjoy it alone. We have topped it with cilantro and crushed tortilla chips or even a teaspoon of sour cream.
Did you know you can also freeze rice? I love making a double batch and putting some in the freezer. It’s so nice to be able to just take this out of the freezer to enjoy with meals like this.
It is also so tasty shredded and used for chicken enchiladas or burrito bowls with black beans and your favorite toppings. You will love this recipe.
You can enjoy it several different ways which makes it perfect to enjoy as leftovers. I love to cook once and eat twice. Such a time saver!
Everyone will think they are eating something different when really it all started with the same salsa verde chicken. 🙂
