You need a good crockpot for this slow cooker soup.

There are some really good ones on sale right now. If you work all day, you may want to invest in a programmable crock pot.

They are awesome because you can set them to start later, or to stop and switch to warm once the dinners are ready. Amazon has some on sale right now too.

I also really like this crockpot.  Now, it’s not programmable but it’s so handy!

It has the feature where you can lock the lid down.

Now if you want to save yourself even more time then I really recommend these Crockpot liners. They make clean up a breeze.

Instead of scrubbing and washing the pot, you can just toss the liner. It is practically no clean up.

Tips to make this slow cooker black bean soup recipe:

This recipe like many calls for diced onions. Another time saving tip is to use a small food chopper or food processor to quickly and easily chop the onions.

If you do not have one of these, I highly recommend them. They are such a time saver and you can get the veggies really fine if you have children that are picky.

I usually just chop the entire vegetable and freeze what I don’t need. It’s so nice to be able to just take the diced onion out of the freezer for recipes.

This is how I meal prep. It’s so quick and easy and helps get dinner on the table fast.

Sometimes, I saute the onion in a little olive oil before putting in the crockpot but that is optional.

  1. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I have a couple of questions. Does this soup freeze well after it’s cooked? I cook for one and love my planned overs (they aren’t left over… I planned on eating them ?). However, like to be able to freeze soups for quick meals later. I’m also wondering if you’ve tried adding ham and/or smoked sausage?

    Thanks!!

I made this soup last week and it was delicious! Everyone asked for seconds and it was even better the next day. The only thing I added was some additional hot sauce as we all like it extra spicy . This is a really good soup and it freezes well.
