Step 6 – In a deep dish skillet or pan, heat about ½ inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F. Carefully place the coated chicken breasts into the hot oil and fry for 6-8 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

  • Step 7 – Remove the fried chicken breasts from the oil and place them on a wire rack or paper towel lined plate to drain excess oil.

Expert Tips

  • Marinate – For the best flavor, marinate the chicken in the buttermilk mixture overnight. This not only makes the chicken super tender but also packs it with flavor.
  • Hot Oil – Make sure the oil’s hot, around 350°F, before you start frying. If it’s not hot enough, the chicken will soak up too much oil and end up greasy.
  • Skillet – We recommend using a cast iron skillet for the best texture. But you you can use any skillet that you prefer.
  • Chicken – It is important to make the chicken about the same size in thickness. This helps to fry the chicken evenly.
