  • Salmon – We used canned salmon that has been well drained
  • Egg – Helps to bind the ingredients
  • Mayonnaise – We used full fat mayo
  • Lemon Juice – Fresh lemon juice gives the patties the best flavor
  • Dijon Mustard – You can also use yellow mustard

  • Panko Breadcrumbs – You can use any type of breadcrumbs. You can also use ritz crackers or any cracker crumbs
  • Fresh Dill and Fresh Parsley – Chop fresh herbs in small pieces

  • Olive Oil – Oil for frying the patties. You can also use vegetable oil

How to Make Salmon Patties

  • Step 1 – Drain the salmon and add the salmon to a large mixing bowl.  Flake the salmon with a fork if needed and remove out any pieces if you are not using boneless, skinless salmon.

Step 2 – Add in all the remaining ingredients except for the olive oil. Stir until fully combined. Make sure that the mixture sticks together well. If the mixture is too dry, add in more mayonnaise and if it appears too wet add in more panko breadcrumbs.

Step 3 – Form the salmon mixture into 8 patties that are approximately ½ inch thick.  Place the patties on a baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes so that they do not fall apart while they are cooking.

Step 4 – Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat until the oil is hot. Add the patties to the skillet in a single layer (you may have to work in batches depending on the size of your pan).

Step 5 – Cook the patties in batches for 3-4 minutes on each side until they are lightly golden brown. Remove from the skillet and place on paper towels to drain. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy! 

Recipe Tips

  • Type of Salmon – You can easily use leftover cooked salmon instead of canned salmon in this recipe if you prefer. If using fresh, make sure to use boneless, skinless salmon and flake the salmon before adding it to the mixing bowl.  
  • Cooking Time – Watch these closely as they cook in the skillet as they do brown quickly. They cook in about 3 minutes on each side.
  • Cooking Salmon – Make sure to not to overcrowd the skillet when cooking the salmon. You may need to cook the salmon in batches.
