This year not only am I trying to be more conscious of my eating, but I wanted to get the kids involved. I want them to understand that a bag of chips is probably not the best snack idea to fuel their body. This year we are focusing on a healthier lifestyle. So today I thought I would share with you some healthy snacking tips that will help both the adults and even the kids.
I was so excited when I got the chance to try out Orchard Valley Harvest snacks.
Orchard Valley Harvest is a brand dedicated to offering non-GMO products with great quality and taste. The nuts and fruits used are picked at their peak and are minimally processed. They also contain no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. The entire family loved these!
The Grab & Go varieties include: Cranberry Almond Cashew Trail Mix, Dark Chocolate Almonds and Chocolate Raisin Nut Trail Mix.
The Multipack varieties include: Chocolate Raisin Nut Trail Mix and Dark Chocolate Almonds.
Don’t they just look delicious? Oh my we just love them!
Here are 5 healthy snacking tips:
1. Keep Pre-portioned Snacks on hand.
We love to keep pre-portioned snacks ready for little hands. They are great because you have them on hand, but they are also nice because they help me hold my self accountable with portion control. I’m not going to lie – I could eat two or three of these orchard Valley Harvest Snacks, so I’m glad they are already packaged in perfect portions for me.
2. Prepare your fruit and vegetables when you buy them.
If you prepare all your fruit and veggies when you buy them they are ready to eat. Then you have no excuse to not eat them. If they need to be washed and chopped, you are more likely to grab empty calories instead of a healthier snack.
3. Keep snacks with you in your gym bag or in your car.
We started keeping a few snacks with us when we are out for those “just in case” moments. When soccer practice runs late and they kids are starving. Instead of running to our local gas station on the way home, they can pull out a delicious snack from their backpack. Orchard Valley Harvest snacks are a great alternative to these impulse purchases.
This is great for Moms too. I’m always on the go and I seem to never have enough time in the day. Having healthy snacks on hand keeps me from buying that candy at the checkout lane when I’m grocery shopping.
4. Plan your snacks.
If you can, try to plan your snacks. Just like you would for dinner, if you have a plan, you are more likely to snack healthier. It is so much easier to eat carrots for an after school snack if you already have it planned. Trust me.
5. Drink Water at Every Snack.
Drink a ton of water! Water is the best thing you can do for your body, but it is one thing that we often forget to do. We have no problem drinking juices and soda, but water…. always seems so hard to drink. My family has started taking notice of our water intake and has challenged ourself to drink a glass of water at EVERY meal, including snacks. 🙂 Try it…. it will really help you feel better.
