Crock Pot Hot Dogs

Everyone loves a good hot dog but what do you do if you need a lot all at once? I tried making Crock Pot Hot Dogs and they were a huge hit. You can adjust the number but I was able to get 52 in my 6 quart slow cooker. This is a game changer!

Whether you are having a graduation party, backyard BBQ or family get together, the slow cooker is the easiest way to make a ton of hot dogs at once.

I just love this method because not only does the slow cooker do all of the work but they stay warm until you are ready to enjoy. It is a win all around.

A hot dog bar set up on an outside table. Chips, hot dog buns, cheese, relish, onions, ketchup, mustard and a small crock pot full of hot dogs are on the table.

Are crock pot hot dogs good?

Yes, our family loves them. The crock pot cooks them to perfection and keeps them warm until we are ready to eat.

Should I add water?

No! There isn’t any need to add water. In fact, doing so will change the texture of the hot dogs. You definitely do NOT want to add water.

The hot dogs release enough moisture to cook the hot dogs so adding more is not needed.

You’ll need a crock pot:

I used a 4 quart crock pot for this recipe and I was able to fit 52 hot dogs in this slow cooker, but any would work great for this recipe.

I liked using my smaller crock pot so I could make some delicious side dishes in my other slow cookers.

Ingredients for slow cooker hot dogs:

  • 52 Hot Dogs – This is how many we were able to fit in a 4 quart slow cooker.  Just fill out your slow cooker with hot dogs.

What size hot dogs?

What size hot dogs to use really depends on the size of your crock pot. I have found that the regular size hot dogs fit in most traditional oval crock pots.

If you have a taller crock pot, you can use the Hebrew or bun length hot dogs.

If you find that your hot dogs do not fit length-wise in your crock pot, you can lay them down in the crock pot as well.

How to make hot dogs in the slow cooker:

Place the hot dogs in the crock pot.  We used a 6 quarter crock pot but you can use a larger crock pot as well.   We put them in vertically and you can put however many you would like.

Do not add water to the crock pot.

How long do you put hot dogs in a crockpot?

Cook on high for 2-3 hours until all the hot dogs are warmed and cooked through.

How long can I keep the hot dogs warm after heating them up?

Then switch the crock pot to low to keep them warm.  The warm setting is perfect for parties! Once on the warm setting, they are good until you are ready to serve for up to 3 hours.

What toppings should I serve?

This is the absolute best hot dog chili recipe and it is super easy.

We also love this coleslaw recipe for the hot dogs.

Skip the store bought stuff and make your own chili and slaw. You can’t go wrong with these delicious toppings.

Or you can top with any toppings of your choice. Some of our favorites include:

A hot dog bar set up on an outside table. Chips, hot dog buns, cheese, relish, onions, ketchup, mustard and a small crock pot full of hot dogs are on the table.

Storage:

You can easily store unopened hot dogs in the refrigerator until the expiration date or freeze for up to 3 months. Once the hot dogs have been opened, store them in an air tight container or bag for up to 5 days.

Leftover cooked hot dogs can be refrigerated for up to 4-5 days or can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.

You will love cooking hot dogs in crock pot!

We love to make a hot dog bar and the slow cooker helps so much. It is perfect for so many occasions from labor day and birthday parties to family reunions and block parties and more.
