Recipe Tips

  • Instant Pot Recommendation – I am using an 8 quart Instant pot but you can use a 6 quart if you prefer. Since purchasing an instant pot, it truly has changed meal time around here. I can pull together dinner in little to no time.
  • Crock Pot Option – No worries if you don’t have an instant pot, you can try our yummy Tangy Crock pot Steak Recipe.
  • Foil – I recommend using heavy duty foil for the potatoes. It is much sturdier than regular. If you don’t have heavy duty, double the regular foil.
  • Steak Selection – Feel free to substitute the round steak for any type of steak you can get on sale. We have used sirloin steaks before and it was yummy.
  • Sear Steak – If you want to you can sear you steak with extra virgin olive oil on the sauté setting in the instant pot. If you do this, deglaze pot after you are done. By scraping bottom of the pot to remove browned bits.
  • Slice Steak – If you prefer you can also slice steak into strips and cook it that way. Cut the strips about 1 inch thick and then cook.

I substituted Madeira wine. We loved this. Soft and tender. The onions made it even more amazing. When it is too cold to grill, I will make this again. I did tenderize the meat.

  2. This was wonderful we had it tonight and it was a hit with my husband and our two friends. The friend’s husband asks for the recipe before they went home they couldn’t believe how easy it was to put together and ended up tasting like a steakhouse dinner. I added carrot coins to the potato packet and I served it with Vildia Onion Pie and a simple green salad. The sauce that you cook it in was not enough so I was wondering if would it hurt anything if I make more sauce and add it to the steaks everyone wanted to have some for their steak and some even wanted it for their potatoes, it was that delicious. Thank you for posting and sharing this wonderful tasty recipe. 🙂

I had a 1 1/2# Top round steak that I used for the recipe. I sliced it into about one inch thick pieces. The flavor was Sooooooooo good. I used tiny round yellow potatoes they weren’t finished. So I popped them into the microwave for a few minutes.
    I’d definitely make this again

Used 2 blade steaks I had from a meat order. Very surprised, the meat was tender. Potatoes were not all fully cooked so used the ones that were, mb need to make potatoes uniform thickness. Over all an excellent meal.
