Variations Ideas:

  • Add Meat – These spinach pinwheels are perfect the way they are. But you can add in shredded cooked chicken or diced ham for a hearty meal.
  • Seasoning – Feel free to add in different seasonings for added flavor. Kosher salt, pepper, teaspoon garlic powder, or fresh parsley. For an extra kick of flavor mix in a teaspoon of cayenne pepper.
  • Vegetables – To sneak in more veggies, feel free to add in chopped broccoli or cauliflower.
  • Slice Jalapenos – I love these roll ups because they can be made in many different ways. Add in slice jalapenos for in extra flavor.
  • Tortilla – There are many tortillas that you can get that fit into you diet. You can use whole wheat tortillas, low carb tortillas or regular tortillas. We usually get the large size tortillas for best results. You can also use puff pastry sheets.
  • Add Cheese – Feel free to add in shredded mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, or parmesan cheese.

Step by Step Instructions:

Mixing the ingredients together in a bowl with a wooden spoon

Step 1 – Combine spinach, ranch dressing mix, sour cream, cream cheese, bacon bits and green onions together in a mixing bowl.

Spread the spinach mixture on a tortilla

Step 2 – Spread the cream cheese filling on each tortilla and roll it up tightly, jelly-roll style.

Wrap the tortilla in a plastic wrap

Step 3 – Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for at least 3 hours.

Slicing the tortilla into small slices

Step 4 – When ready to serve, slice each wrap into approximately ¾” thick rounds. Serve cold and enjoy!

Recipe Tips:

  • Softened Cream Cheese – Before combining the ingredients make sure the cream cheese has softened to room temperatures. This helps to create a smooth and creamy mixture.
  • Spreading Spinach Mixture – After combining the spinach, cream cheese and seasoning together in a bowl. Spread a thin layer on a tortilla. You want to make sure the layer is not to thick as you want to be able to roll the tortilla without losing to much of the mixture.
  • Rolling Tortilla – After spreading the mixture, roll the tortilla tightly and then wrap with plastic wrap. You may need to help with this part if your kids are helping.
  • Slicing Rolls Ups –Slice the tortilla rounds about ¾ inch thick rounds with a serrated knife. This is the perfect size for serving as an appetizer.
  • Spinach – We recommend using frozen spinach instead of fresh spinach in this recipe. Make sure your spinach is thawed and drained before mixing with the other ingredients.

How Long Do you Chill Roll Ups:

After wrapping the tortilla roll ups with plastic wrap, we recommend placing the spinach roll ups in the fridge for at least 3 hours. This allows for the mixture to marinate together for the best flavor.

This also helps the tortilla to seal better for slicing and serving.
