These easy Halloween Ghost Cupcakes are easy to make!

This Halloween dessert is adorable. No scary ghosts around here!  We prefer the cute ones in my house!

My family loves Halloween, but we try to stay away from the scary Halloween – we make it all fun and kid friendly. If you want a fun Halloween treat then this is for you.

Another family favorite is Halloween Rice Krispie Treats.\

What ingredients are needed to make these Halloween Cupcakes?

I just used plain cupcake liners, but I think it would be fun to use some Halloween cupcake liners like these.

Cupcake liners aren’t necessary. If you use a silicone cupcake mold, don’t worry about the liners. These ghost cupcakes are cute enough to stand alone. I did use a Wilton 1A round decorating tip to swirl my frosting on the top of each cupcake.

For the Frosting:

  • Butter
  • Marshmallow Fluff
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Milk

How to make Ghost Cupcakes:

For the Cupcakes:

You are going to love how easy these cupcakes are to make.  First preheat oven to 35o F.

Then mix together the chocolate cake mix ingredients according to the box instructions.  Fill each muffin tin with cupcake batter until they’re approximately ¾ of the way full.

Next bake according to boxed mix instructions for the cupcakes and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.

After the cooking time allow the chocolate cupcakes to cool completely at room temperature on a wire rack.

For the Frosting:

Beat butter and powdered sugar until fluffy and well mixed.

Mix in fluff and vanilla by hand and mix well.

If needed mix 1-2 tablespoons milk to get to the desired consistency.

How to decorate the Ghost Cupcakes:

Once the cupcakes have cooled, fill a piping bag with a large round decorating tip with the marshmallow creme frosting.

Mark a swirl with the marshmallow creme frosting on top of the cupcakes.

Then place 3 chocolate chips (for the eyes and the nose) on the front of the marshmallow swirl to make the adorable ghost face on your cupcakes.

That’s it!  These are so simple to make and are always a hit with my family on Halloween!

Easy Substitutions that can be used for this recipe:

Here are a few easy substitutions that you can use on this recipe if needed.

For the cake mix, you can definitely make your favorite flavor.  I choose chocolate as the darker color reminds me more of Halloween and I love the contrast with the white marshmallow creme but any flavor would work great for this recipe.

For the topping, you can use buttercream frosting with powdered sugar or cream cheese frosting or Easy Marshmallow Fluff Frosting Recipe as well.  I found that I was able to get the marshmallow creme to go taller to have that ghost look so that’s why I chose this for this recipe.

For the chocolate chips, you can also use chocolate candies as these would work great and have a similar look to make your ghost face.

Make sure you try some of our delicious cupcakes. I know you will find more your family will love.
