Paula Deen’s Breakfast Casserole Recipe:

This copycat breakfast casserole is layered with delicious ingredients. The ingredients are simple and you can easily make ahead of time.

Once the sausage is cooked perfectly in the skillet it is then layered in a baking dish. The eggs are then seasoned and poured over the sausage and cheese.

Ingredients needed - pork sausage, white bread, cheese, eggs, milk, dry mustard, pepper and salt

Serves: 10 

Ingredients: 

  • Ground Maple Pork Sausage 
  • White Bread 
  • Cheddar Cheese (shredded) 
  • Large Eggs 
  • Whole Milk 
  • Dry Mustard 
  • Black Pepper 
  • Salt 

How to Make Paula Deen Breakfast Casserole: 

  • Step 1 – Spray the baking dish with a nonstick cooking spray. 
  • Step 2 – In a large skillet cook the sausage over medium heat stirring frequently until browned and crumbly. Drain off the excess grease.

  • Step 3 – Cut the crust off the bread and cut the bread pieces in half. In a single layer in prepared baking dish cutting pieces. Top the bread with the browned sausage and the shredded cheese.

  • Step 4 – In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, mustard, pepper and salt.  Pour this mixture over the cheese in the casserole pan.  Cover the dish and refrigerate for approximately 8 hours (overnight works great).

  • Step 5 – Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.  Sit the casserole dish out at room temperature while the oven preheats.  
  • Step 6 – Uncover the casserole and bake for 40 minutes until the top of the casserole is set and golden brown.  Let the casserole stand for 10 minutes before serving and enjoy.

Tips for Making the Perfect Breakfast Casserole:

  • Uncover Casserole – We like to bake the casserole uncover so the top gets golden brown.
  • Refrigerate – One you have layered ingredients, allow the casserole to refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight.

How to Make Ahead:

We recommend making this breakfast casserole ahead of time.

  • Layer the ingredients in the casserole.
  • Place the casserole in the refrigerator and allow it rest for at least 8 hours.
  • Cover the casserole and place in the refrigerator.
  • Bake casserole the next day until golden brown.

Refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

How to Freeze:

This breakfast casserole freezes great. Prepare the casserole as indicated and place in a freezer safe container to bake.

Once the casserole has cooled, cover with foil and freeze. When you are ready to serve, allow casserole to thaw overnight then bake.

Ingredients

  • 1 Pound Ground Maple Pork Sausage

  • 8 oz Cheddar Cheese shredded
  • 8 Large Eggs
  • 2 cups Whole Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Dry Mustard
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  • Spray a 9X13 baking pan with a non-stick cooking spray.
