How to Cook Asparagus in the oven:
First, preheat the oven.
How to trim asparagusWhile the oven is preheating go ahead and trim the asparagus. You want to get all the rough ends cut off.
Next, line a cookie sheet with foil.
Lay asparagus on the cookies sheet in an even layer to roast the asparagus.
Drizzle lightly with olive oil and season with the minced garlic, salt and pepper.
How can you tell if asparagus is cooked?
Cook for 7-10 minutes based on thickness of the asparagus until asparagus darkens slightly and is tender. Do NOT overcook. The asparagus should still be crisp. It will continue cook as it sits.
This is the key! You don’t want soggy and limp asparagus.
It only takes a few minutes to cook and you want it still crispy. The kids actually will eat it if it is crispy. They might just surprise you!

Easy Roasted Asparagus
- 1 pound fresh asparagus
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Trim the edges of the asparagus off. You want to get all the rough ends cut off.
- Line a cookie sheet with foil for easy clean up.
- Lay asparagus on the cookies sheet in an even layer.
- Drizzle lightly with the olive oil.
- Sprinkle the minced garlic, salt and pepper over the top of the asparagus.
- Cook for 5-8 minutes based on the thickness of the asparagus (thinner asparagus will cook faster) until asparagus darkens slightly and is tender. Do NOT overcook. The asparagus should still be crisp.
