It really is so quick and easy and your family can enjoy a great side dish. Even during busy weeknights this side dish can easily be put together.

Cooking Asparagus in the oven is delicious!

As long as you do not not overcook asparagus, you can have a delicious side dish with hardly any work! I like to top it with some fresh cherry tomatoes to make this side dish even more delicious.

If you are afraid of asparagus, then today is the day to try it. It is so delicious and as long as you keep it slightly crisp, even the kids will love it.

  • Olive Oil

You only need a few simple ingredients to make this easy side dish. It is super easy but so flavorful.

How to Cook Asparagus in the oven:

First, preheat the oven.

How to trim asparagus

While the oven is preheating go ahead and trim the asparagus. You want to get all the rough ends cut off.

Next, line a cookie sheet with foil.

Lay asparagus on the cookies sheet in an even layer to roast the asparagus.

Drizzle lightly with olive oil and season with the minced garlic, salt and pepper.

How can you tell if asparagus is cooked?

Cook for 7-10 minutes based on thickness of the asparagus until asparagus darkens slightly and is tender. Do NOT overcook. The asparagus should still be crisp. It will continue cook as it sits.

This is the key! You don’t want soggy and limp asparagus.

It only takes a few minutes to cook and you want it still crispy. The kids actually will eat it if it is crispy. They might just surprise you!

Asparagus can be expensive if you are not shopping smart. Only make asparagus when it is on sale and in season. Normally you will get the best prices from August to November.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh asparagus
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Trim the edges of the asparagus off. You want to get all the rough ends cut off.
  • Line a cookie sheet with foil for easy clean up.
  • Lay asparagus on the cookies sheet in an even layer.
  • Drizzle lightly with the olive oil.
  • Sprinkle the minced garlic, salt and pepper over the top of the asparagus.
  • Cook for 5-8 minutes based on the thickness of the asparagus (thinner asparagus will cook faster) until asparagus darkens slightly and is tender. Do NOT overcook. The asparagus should still be crisp.

    I love asparagus, so I’m always looking for different ways to prepare. I changed up your recipe a bit. Used garlic powder instead of garlic salt, then sprinkled lemon pepper over(before roasting). Yum!
