Step 2 – Divide the ground turkey mixture into 6 equal portions. Then form the balls into patties that are approximately 4 inches wide and 1 inch thick and make an indent in the center of each patty with your thumb.

  • Step 3 – Place the turkey burger patties in the refrigerator (covered in plastic wrap) while you preheat the grill.
  • Step 4 – Preheat the outdoor Grill over medium high heat (approximately 450-500 degrees Fahrenheit). Rub oil on the grill grates to prevent the patties from sticking to the grill.
  • Step 5 – Place the patties on the grill over direct heat.  Cook for 4-8 minutes (flipping the patties halfway through the cook time) until the turkey patties reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Use an instant-read meat thermometer to make sure that the patties are cooked to a safe temperature.
  • Step 6 – Place the buns on the grill and cook for 1 minute until they are browned slightly.  Watch them closely so that they do not burn.

Recipe Tips

  • Choosing Oil – Use any oil with a high smoke point. Vegetable oil, canola oil, coconut oil or avocado oil will all work great in this recipe.
  • Cooking Methods – We love the flavor that the gas grill gives these turkey burgers, but you can also use a charcoal grill. We usually grill them directly on the grill grates but you can also use a grill pan. If you prefer, you can cook on the stovetop in a cast iron skillet for any easy indoor recipe.
  • Cooking Time – Cooking time will vary depending on the size of your patties. We recommend using a meat thermometer to ensure your burgers are fully cooked.
